Only one idiot on this thread so far...encouraging for anyone who believes that prosecuting our own army over what was obviously a civil war (although never admitted as such) is appalling.

People have short memories. In WW2 we sent bombers over to Germany and we bombed civilians...because they were doing it to us.....Babies died horrible deaths in rubble who were as innocent as you can be. Did we send those airmen to jail? Where is the compensation for those babies? There is no fairness in war......The IRA were in that crowd. If you put armed soldiers in confrontational situations eventually people are going to die. You don't s*** on your own. Edited by Stirlingsays (14 Mar 2019 2.38pm) Was it not the RAF that started mass bombing of civilians in March 1940? I can’t understand why the RMPs weren’t all over this. Unarmed civilians shot in the back and when attending the wounded. There is no bravery in that, only cowardice. I am sure there was some armed threat but this has always appeared to me to be indiscriminate killing. I don’t think the paras were in fear for their lives, just angry and out of control. In any other sphere of life they would be held to account. They can’t be above the law.

So alleged war crimes shouldn’t be properly investigated and taken to court just because it’s ‘one of our own’?

There were violent scumbags on all sides. My theory on the peace process was that people watched the former Yugoslavia tear itself apart and thought 'no thanks'. sounds to me like you would welcome another 30 years of troubles ? Absolute bollocks. It wasn't 'troubles'. It was a bunch of gangsters selling drugs and murdering children. We should have crushed them rather than sign up to Good Friday. I'm all for amnesty on this one, but that's been thrown out the window now. If our boys go in front of the beak fair enough: so do theirs. No surrender.

“Like giving out speeding tickets at the Indy 500” I think about 10% of casualties during the troubles were down to British forces. The Paras were trained killers to a much greater extent than other regiments in the British army (forming the bulk of SAS recruits). They were trained to fight hard and fast and ruthless and should never have been put in a position of policing a riot with live amunition. It was only ever going to end one way. I also think the provos got their pound of flesh at Warren Point.

If the British were going to stay in NI then the actions for retaining NI and significantly lowering attacks are there....not amicable for everyone but nothing would have been. As the Jews have shown us......you build a massive wall and ensure that only your lot are on the one side of it....then suddenly attacks drop massively. Trade would have to have been reconfigured but the costs would have probably worked out less than what we went through. We should have never sent troops there, just ensured the unionists were well armed and have built the wall. But I guess that's why the Jews have higher IQs than most. China is doing it now. It isn't something I can support but the idea that we couldn't have done this and steamrolled the IRA is fanciful. We tied one arm behind our back......but likewise I'm not accepting of the body bags so other routes should have been pursued.....if we were going to keep the unionists there. For information, I'm from a family of Irish Catholics and was brought up as such. I'm unsure why you're bringing religion into it. By crush, arrest and try. They were all grasses at the end, apparently Adams and McGuiness the biggest.
