They both are MPs in constituencies where they have increased their vote share exponentially. Corbyn was voted for by the membership of Europe’s largest political party, twice, and their manifesto saw Labour get a higher number of votes than in the previous 4 elections.

They poll badly because the establishment have their guns turned on them. How many other politicians in this country can claim a democratic legitimacy as strong as the one above?

I get that but it doesn't win elections having a 'legitimacy'.

Where are the votes?

48% of the vote they turned their backs on, the leave labour voters simply not enough to win an election.

It is just arithmetic.

Wilson would be in No.10 by now IMO.

Wrong. The majority of the public voted otherwise.

Ah, but he said 'do not' rather than 'did not'. Much water under the bridge now, which is why the vested interests fear a third vote.

Exactly, where are the votes?

The lib Dems ran the last general election on the second vote ticket, got 10% of the vote. Both Conservatives and Labour ran on implementing the referendum. 82% of the vote.
Then there's the obvious: 52% of one of the biggest voter turnouts in history aren't likely to support it.

I think these people are about to learn the hard way that their own echo chambers are not representative of reality.

I understand that he feels that these MPs should put themselves up for re-election.Probably believes that with all but one in a safe Labour seat they will be ousted and he will then have in place hard-left candidates. The more of these he has as MPs the better as far as he is concerned.

Well 6 of the 7 have large majorities, meaning a lack of representation in major labour constituencies, whether hard or not.

"Scumbags" well thats a judgement call on people neither of us know. You may be right you may be wrong. Comes under fair comment.

But "spineless"? They just publicly walked out on their party formed a new one and probably just consigned themselves to a tiny insignificant footnote and political oblivion... because of a conviction. Not my definition of lacking spine.

No, it's out and out idiocy.

I doubt they discussed it with their constituency chairs or agents that did the election legwork.

Possibly. A better course may have been to ride the tide of leftist populism and then clear out the rubbish when the party was forced to reform after a GE mauling.

Unfortunately with Brexit looming they probably felt they did not have the luxury of time.

As others have said a pointless gesture that served only one purpose - to oust 7 rebels without corbyn having to fire a shot. Can you imagine the obedient little trots who are going to replace them?

Completely baffled by anti-semitism in the Labour party, I am one of those who just doesn't get it, but it is there apparently and must be stopped.

how can i write this politely and in a PC manner....

as Labour chases after the Arsenal vote, it disses the Spurs vote. The Arsenal vote will not tolerate Spurs supporters at their meetings.

Corbyn is just reflecting what is happening on the streets. If he wades in and stops the bickering he is likely to lose a ton of votes.

by this point , i reckon most jews are voting Tory.

The Jewish mindset is that they are a minority.....and minorities across the board vote high majority for the Labour party and left generally anywhere.

The numbers of Jews in the Uk has been going down for quite a while....at the same time that other demographics have been rising (not a good economic or IQ trade off at all). We now have fewer than 300, 000 anglo Jews in the country.

It's hard to get data like this but from the US we tend to know that Jews vote 70/30 in favour of Democrats....even though plenty of them are wealthy compared to the average.

Here it's hard to say how much the rise in antisemitism from talking shops within Labour has actually affected them because in truth most of this 'antisemitism' is waffle. The real antisemitism is found elsewhere and involves threats of violence if they walk down dressed as a Jew in certain areas.

I suspect that Jews at most probably vote fifty fifty here now.

Now I might disagree with how plenty of them vote but I for one have high regard for Jews as a group.

As of 2017 Nobel Prizes have been awarded to 881 individuals.

Of that number 197 - 22.4% - were Jewish or people of Jewish descent.

Yet from global population Jews comprise less than 0.2% of the world's population.

They have 41% of economics, 28% of medicine, 26% of physics, 19% of chemistry, 13% of literature and 9% of all peace awards.

If your population is low in Jews and you are competing against another population high in Jews......I'm not betting on you.

But does this mean that their activist wing is good for a socially cohesive society?....that's another question entirely.
