Wayne Hennessey is currently out with an injury, and Roy Hodgson would be a concerned man for now. However, there is no doubt that he would start in goal once he is fully fit.

WHAT WHAT?!?

Yeah...well I mean he was #1 until injury, after playing bloody well all season...so makes sense. Guitia provides fantastic competition though. So good to have two solid options.

That is certainly our best 11 players man for man. Meyer hasn't done enough to replace any of the front six as of yet, and though I'd like to think he'll eclipse Jimmy Mac sooner or later, he'll need to toughen up physically, show more end product and demonstrate a lot more nous first. No easy task - Mac is a terrific player for us.

Otherwise, the only question is whether the formation is too bold. It's almost a front 4 isn't it? Personally I think Roy could make it work. He likes a 442, and so do I. Makes me nostalgic for the days of:

Martyn
Humphreys Thorn Young Shaw
McGoldrick Thomas Gray Salako
Wright Bright

So perhaps we are going back to the future?

That certainly was a great team, i don't expect we will ever see as good again, but we are getting closer i think, as for today's squad, i am getting more and more worried about PSV.
Didn't he have a period at Swansea, when their supporters were saying he is "rubbish" ?

I'd be clear to them that performance in training will be a huge determinant of who gets picked. Ferocious competition.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

I think Roy will want to start Batshuayi, so the only question is whether he starts Bentenke again too. Personally I would and I think he will too.

Vicente

AWB Tomkins Sakho PvA

Andros McArthur Luka Zaha

Tekkers Batman

Aside from Anderson, Snodgrass is playing really well for the Spammers too, so if they're on their game we will need to work hard - probably harder than against Fulham or Southampton.

I expect Ayew to start, and Bats to come on as sub.
Not sayings it's right or wrong, but Roy seems to favour him.

I'm not sure that's quite true. In the past Roy has acknowledged that Ayew isn't a proper striker, but he does clearly appreciate his work ethic. However, he has not been blessed with an availability of quality and fit strikers so I think it has been more a case of needs must. Roy seems properly excited by the arrival of Bats so I expect him to start, especially as in 10 minutes he looked more threatening than Ayew has looked all season.

At last Roy has some choices up front, which must be a nice problem to have.
I fully expect Ayew to start, his performances of late warrant it and it gives the team balance with either Belgium.

Vicente Guaita is simply head and shoulders better than Hennessey.
Sadly he is already showing how poor WH really was and what we have been missing.
That is not a nasty comment just a statement of fact - in my opinion.

Tomkins and Kouyate injured but we do have cover at least. I am struggling to pick a team. Do we start with Kelly or Dann in place of Tomkins? Do we keep Schlupp who had a decent game v Fulham? Zaha’s ban isn’t in effect yet so we should play him.. but for who? Do we start Benteke or Bats or both?

Is that because he doesn't kick it straight into touch?

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

No, he does rubbish back-spin kicks like Speroni. Can't believe people on here have already forgotten the De Bruynne and Kante goals - both of which should have been stopped.
