I don't get the Meyer adulation.

Meyer was great when he came on...he's so elusive and good at nudging the ball to a team mate in a better position before an opponent can get near him. Schlupp is so frustrating. He has energy and power and, when simply running with the ball, is fine. But he can't see anything but the simplest pass and as such can be dispossessed. Another advantage of Schlupp over Meyer is that Schlupp had a goal in him. We need that because almost nobody else does.

Meyer is more effective later in the game when it gets more stretched. Roy knows exactly what he’s doing.

Roy picked him today... and brought him on at an important stage of the game when he made a difference moving the ball a lot quicker than Luka and McArthur. It might just be that he's more effective as a sub than a starter in certain games.

I know it's all about opinions, but I thought Meyer demonstrated why Roy doesn't entirely trust him, he lost possession several times in dangerous positions after coming on today. Don't get me wrong, I do like him as a player but, as others have said, he's a bit lightweight and can be knocked off the ball too easily.

Again; agree but he was in those positions because he's not being played where he's best suited.

Meyer is our best player, absolutely mustard. Struggled with the pace of the league in the beginning, but he's there now. I've slept on it and Hodgson is just a daft old c***, f*** him and his Plan A or nothing football, predictable line ups and bizarre substitutions. He had a stronger attack on the bench than on the pitch last night and he brought on Schlupp? And to think there's people on here foolish enough to argue he's one of England's greatest ever managers and had massive success, I'm sick of this nonsense. He's an old, mediocre manager on the wane big time. I've never said it before, but he's got to go. Start Ayew up front and try to defend a one goal lead Vs Southampton? PVA undroppable despite how bad he plays? Meyer on the bench ffs?! We are sleepwalking into relegation and even if we turn things around can realistically only catch 13th. This is unacceptable, that is a top ten squad all day long. Edited by Midlands Eagle (02 Feb 2019 9.01am) Sure, Roy has his wtf moments but he's more than good enough for us.

Strange one really. In my opinion he’s our best centre midfielder. Very tidy and creative. In theory it’s a perfect set up with the more defensive Luka to sit behind him. It almost feels like there is some kind of discipline issue/problem with Roy behind the scenes which we don’t known about. It’s baffling that’s he’s not starting. I think there’s a real danger that he’ll want to leave if it continues and we’ll lose him to a bigger club.
