I don't think it was for more money, but the same amount he was getting when we signed him on a free.(70grand a week i believe)

Don't think the club expected to sign Batshuyai. After that, the best possible scenario for the Club (and worst for Sako) was Benteke, Ayew, Townsend, Zaha, and Schlupp all being fit at the same time and none being suspended. It's pretty much ended any hope for Sako getting a chance and possibly resigning in the Summer longer term. It's pretty clear if Wilf or Andros are out we move Schlupp there. If Bats is out we move Benteke or Ayew there.

At the moment I'm guessing Ayew is the cover for those positions or even Schlupp moving to wing before Sako. Its not a waste of money because he costs us wages only and he makes up the squad. If he starts pulling up trees in training then he might get a go. You could say the same about Wickham who currently isn't injured but cannot make a bench spot.

He puts himself about and has a mean shot on him. Benteke needs game time if we want to sell him but if we are going to get dragged into a real relegation scrap we need players out there that can make things happen. Benteke looks totally ineffective.
