Pretty sure we’ll be parting ways with Roy in the summer and the clearance of dead wood and freeing up wages is an attempt to make sure our next guy has a decent wedge to push on to the next level, reckon Wilf will be staying another season whether he likes it or not due to that contract extension...
It makes business and logical sense, at his age this is probably Roy’s last year or two and he’s not a manager to take us forward into the future. We have enough in the squad to make it through a relegation battle with just a striker loan signing and benteke coming back ....

Roy’s done us well, but I see parish as calling this year a write off, which it is, and planning for the future.

I think you are right

If we were in financial trouble, we would have been posting losses season upon season, which we have not done. If we were in trouble we would have made it known that one or all of our big earners were up for sale which we haven't done either.

Players will be brought in if the management deem it necessary, if not we will make do with who we have, which is still a pretty expensive squad.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

No.

We are building a big new stand and like other clubs who claim to have 'ringfenced' the funds, we now won't spend much on players until the full costs of the project are known.

I suspect the club is being prepared for sale but getting rid of players who are deemed to be surplus is never a bad thing.
We need a quality squad who are all of first eleven standards.

Agreed, I think once permission for the new stand is finalised, this will go ahead. I believe SP may have had enough but, to be fair to him, he will not let the club go to anyone.
Do feel we need new investors though

Were we getting shot of players that make the starting XI or bench I'd be worried too but we've offloaded no more than dead weight, regulars on the fringe or reserves but drawing a wage all the same, hopefully they'll find regular games elsewhere but haven't as yet seen anyone leave I'd miss. Besides, the windows not closed yet so we may well see newcomers.

They're shifting the deadwood, simple as that.
Arguably, it shows a strategy for once.

Agree with this. None of those shifted out were first 11 material.

Whilst that may be true we couldn’t name enough senior players to fill a squad before the window. Now it looks dangerously thin.

we've done a great job shifting players and I'm delighted by the loan Sorloth got and how he's started.

obviously we would all love a quality addition or two. if it doesn't pan out, we've still done the right thing -- for ourselves and the players -- to have had a clear out. I'm pleased this has happened.

if our squad is thinner, it's very very fractionally so.

Not agreeing with GPW here, the squad is particularly weak in the forward line-up, yet they get rid of KalKai, who was being praised by RH recently, on a free (typical us).

A couple of injuries and we could well be facing a struggle over the 3rd relegation slot.

What do we want in the transfer window, well the type of player we have just got rid of !!

tbf the players shipped out have probably amounted to less than 90 PL minutes combined in the last 12 months, apart from sorloth and we have wickkam & big ben to replace him.

i dont think we are in trouble, but i think we are very, very close to not living within our means.

we absolutly have to be not losing money year on year, and i fully support us cutting cloth accordingly.

KaiKai has had a few chances, he is 23!. If you are good enough at this level you would have taken one of them. AWB took his chance because he will be a top player. I would rather they tried out youngsters on the bench than overpaid championship players. 20 first team players is more than enough. Unlikely to get 9 injuries. And if we do blood the youngsters. Seeds don't grow unless you plant them.

A fair comment until you consider that you're better off fielding 10 men then start squad players like Jordan Mutch...
