C.j. Sansom's Shardlake series - 7 books all excellent set in the time of Henry VIII and Cromwell.
For something a bit different in the 'supernatural/crime'
genre, try Phil Rickman's Merrily Watkins series (a CofE female vicar who is also the Diocesan Exorcist) sounds a bit odd, but a brilliant writer.

OH loves J.P.Donlevy's books - as mentions in the OP's list.

Dominion by CJ Sampson is one of the best books I've ever read.

Incorrect. Since leaving I have become a campaigner for gender fluidity and have shunned literature that perpetrates gender stereotypes.

I bet I know which book of Adolf Hitlers you like the most!

C'mon admit it, it's his vegetarian cookbook.

Funny you mentioned him, as he is Douglas Reeman's alter ego & i love all his books & sadly have all but 3 of his collection.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

I also like Oscar Wilde for his diverse use of language. Really helps keep your vocabulary sharp.

I don't read a great deal and when I do it's more likely to be non-fiction than fiction, but have enjoyed quite a few of Harlan Coben's novels over the past 12 years or so. Excellent thriller writer.

Not sure if he's still an active writer, but Frederick Forsyth is a quite excellent thriller/espionage writer. He really knows his stuff, which makes his books so very believable.
