Bit of a shame- never given a chance in the 1st team, even when he was red hot for the under 23s and had very productive spells out on loan. Very suprised we have let him go for nothing, assuming there is a big sell clause. Good luck sullay!

Always sorry to see one of our own go but I'm very dismayed by some of the reactions on here.

The reality is he has not quite got what it takes to make it at Palace and just maybe the board are actually looking at the human side of it? respecting that one of their own who they have seen come up through the ranks, on the verge of the first team squad but not quite `got it enough` to really break through and he needs to leave to further his career at pastures new.

Look back at the countless threads in other transfer windows bemoaning the board for not clearing out the deadwood. We do so and look at the reaction. What a fickle bunch we are.

I think Sulley, along with Johniesta are classic casses of us wanting/loving the idea of the understandably romantic idea of the `one of our own coming up through the ranks and being a star` (Zaha?) The reality is for every Zaha there are so many who dont quite make it at the right time.

Hope he goes on to develop and do well for himself.

Is this the final exit we were told about?

... now where are the new boys?

When I saw he had been sent out I was kind've surprised, then when I saw it was permanent I was shocked, then when I later saw it was for free I remembered I follow Crystal Palace.

I jest though, good luck to the lad and lets hope this makes space for prospects more suited to us.

Never really made the team, but good luck in the future; will probably come back to bite us sometime in the future.

I would have thought that was extremely unlikely. I’d be more surprised if we ever heard anything about him again. Good riddance I say, another one off the wage bill.

I quite liked him (Kai Kai), but he seemed very lightweight. I watched him Vs Bristol away (nobody particulary covered themselves in glory that night!) and he was very easily muscled out of the game.

I have every respect for him going abroad, he had a couple of semi-successful loan moves whilst with us which shows he wants to play and I hope it works out for him.
Good move all round at this point, wouldn't be surprised if he does come good over there. Hopefully there's some kind of buy-back trap door but I doubt it given our ridiculous record of mishandling transfers.

Yes. Going to Holland must be a huge leap in the dark. Got to hand it to the young fella for embracing the opportunity so willingly. Especially when he isn’t the real deal at this point. I would love to see him make it.

The reality is that we tend to unearth a raw diamond once every 5 years or so...

Clyne, Zaha & Wan Bissako

It's not easy living the dream.

If I were a parent I'd focus my child more in education.

Good parents do that anyway, but you're only thinking of the players at the top. Had we not been promoted we'd have probably seen more youngsters come through, but the reality is we're looking for a higher standard.

In terms of other 'recent' academy players. In the last 15 years or so:

Rhoys Wiggins played a decent number of games in the football league before injury forced his retirement.

Ben Watson is still playing at a good level.

Tom Soares made us some good money when we sold him, and has had a decent career in the football league. I think he's still at AFC Wimbledon?

Lewis Grabban is another who is still playing at a good level and has had a couple of big money transfers since he left us.

Sean Scannell is still playing in League One.

Jonny Williams had horrible injuries, but he's still likely to end up playing a few hundred football league games which is nothing to sniff at.

Add those to Victor Moses, Clyne, Wilf & AWB and that's actually not a bad list for an academy that hasn't really had the resources of other clubs, and has spent most of the time trying to develop players ready to play for a top 40 club in the country.

No reason Kai Kai can't have a good career and earn a good living either in Holland, elsewhere in Europe or back in the UK in a couple of years.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

His only claim to fame in a palace shirt was his last minute equaliser against pardews Newcastle over 4 years ago, which was annoying because we had to go back to our seats and suffer extra time, so I’ve never liked him for that

Good luck to him though, he was never going to make it big time with us, so it’s about time we cut him loose
