Townsend has been putting in amazing crosses bang between the penalty spot and 6-yard box (including last night) that no striker can get on the end of. Great touch and finish last night though, made even better that he was limping to come off just beforehand and still gathered his composure to take the chance This ^^^ When I watch him he strikes me as being more comfortable out wide and cutting in rather than an out and out forward. Don’t mind keeping him but see him more as cover for Wilf and Andros rather than our target man. I think both Wickham and Benteke are better at playing that central role.

It was a fantastically taken goal and for me his best performance of the season. However, let’s not get carried away. His performances over the first half of the season have been dreadful, he’s got more work to do to make up for it. I don’t agree with many that he works hard, he looks like an arrogant sulker to me. I hope he can prove me wrong. I’m pleased for him and hope this has given him the confidence to kick on now. Give him a start against Grimsby to hopefully score again. With the return of Connor Wickham and Big Ben not far off, our striker crisis could be over. I’m not sure it’s necessary to sign a striker anymore, we are hardly in a crisis. 6 points from safety, good form and players returning to fitness. I’d rather we offloaded some of the deadwood to balance the books and take our time to sign the right striker in the summer. I’d say competition/back up on the wings is a bigger priority now. I agree with all of that.

I'm just saying it could be a bad thing in disguise. Keeping in the squad a guy who has scored only once in half a season could do more damage than replacing him with a striker who could actually score 4-5 in the next 5 months. If Ayew keeps his percentage, he'll score once or twice more until the end of the season. Even if he won't be a starter (I didn't claim that as some here misunderstood) and he'll be third striker in the squad, I don't see much difference betwen him and Frazier Campbell. Even a third striker should score 4-5 goals until June. If Ayew scores only half that....let's hope those 2-3 extra goals won't make a difference between staying up or going down.

Happy for him and the goal, the emotional release suggests that there is something going on. How to tap into that energy? That's the job of the sports therapist and the manager.

Give him a go against Grimsby if allowed. Takes a chance like that again with a similar performance then make a choice. I was confused that he played yesterday. Assume clubs send loan players back at the end of the window ?

I was gutted when he scored, because it likely meant that he would stay. he's been pretty woeful since he's been here...he did more in that 90mins last night then in the rest of the season! Having said all that, and even though it was borderline offside, he took he's goal beautifully! I wouldn't sign him though...back up player at best

I see we have ended or interest in Solanke. I smell another window of pretence and no spending. Ayew has been useless for the entire season and scores one goal and Wickham has played 5 minutes without breaking down. Now everyone thinks we can relax. Parish must love Palace fans. Can I remind everyone that our goals total is the third worst in the league. Our striking options are not good enough and Parish is doing what he always does. He’s better than kouyate. Don’t rate him at all. Reminds me of bambi and gives the ball away nearly as much as Puncheon.

Showed passion and relief, will never knock either. Could be our dark horse for the second half of the season. The goal was extremely well taken - it’s what we need. IF Wickham and Benteke both recover form and fitness then Ayew if he kicks on could do well in supporting them. He actually did very well last night as lone striker between two widemen. We still need another striker (Batshuayi maybe) who can do the Fox in the box.?
