They didn't. I don't suggest you make this deliberately but I want to make that clear. The whole situation was a tragedy on monumental levels.

I've read that about 5 times and don't understand the possible implication you refer to. So I can't comment.

I could make a cheap jibe but considering what happened all those years ago, I'll just leave it.

Fortunately for our friend in Paul Gadd land, Soros would rather spend his cash on promoting democracy rather than starting libel cases against willfully idiotic non-entities.

Regular little fan boy aren't you.

It's unwise to put your faith in strangers, especially those who make grand gestures.

But he wont't accept the democratic vote that was the referendum....how strange, but of course, those who voted leave are all thick racists aren't we

You were there then?
I think your 2nd paragraph is out of order just because someone has different views to you.
Personally I suspect his wealth was not legitimately gained and he should butt out of UK politics but that is my opinion which probably makes me a disgusting individual

George Soros claims to fund democracy around the world. In Britain that means the people vote campaign. Of course some would argue that funding this movement is actually destabilising and divisive which if you are a currency speculator of course is quite handy.

I suspect his motives are not pure and even if they are as a foreigner he should not be interfering in the politics of a country he does not live in.

I didn't like it when Obama intervened I don't like when Putin puts his oar in and I certainly will not listen to a foreign currency speculator who in the past has put personal profit above the well being of this country. For those with short term memories he made a fortune forcing the pound out of the ERM and forcing the government to completely re-do its economic policy to deal with the fall out.

And yet to some desperate people he is a hero. Those same people are quick to point out that an Englishman may have broken electoral law with funds that maybe from a dubious source. But funds from a Hungarian currency speculator are fine.

Trebles and double standards all around please.

Yes you're right this is about opinions. Some opinions are morally repugnant and must be challenged robustly and vociferously. I honestly don't give a cr*p if you don't like it.

In my experience very few people accumulate huge wealth without engaging in illegitimate activity. Soros has been convicted of insider trading, so certainly he isn't innocent of that.

But the a***hole you find it necessary to defend accused him of "selling out to the Nazis in the war rounding up jews and stealing there homes (sic)".

None of which is true.

If there was a case to answer then he'd have faced trial for war crimes. After all they're still bringing people to justice for nazi war crimes today, almost 80 years later. And if he were found guilty he'd be convicted. Simon Wiesenthal the most famous nazi hunter never accused Soros of any war crimes. Soros' account of what actually happened does not incriminate him.

So no fortunately I wasn't in Hungary in 1944 as the red army encircled Budapest and the Hungarian arrow-cross marched Jews from the ghetto to the banks of the Danube, shot them in the head and threw their bodies into the river.

And even if I had been there, it's somewhat unlikely that I'd have met a 14 year old kid called Schwartz György.

But it doesn't matter that I wasn't there. Because there is no evidence that he engaged in any of the heinous crimes that he's accused of by cpfc_chap.

So yes you're right, some of his wealth was acquired illegitimately and maybe he should indeed butt out of UK politics but unfortunately you chose to try and defend the indefensible and so you also became a morally bankrupt and disgusting individual.

All of which has me wondering if freedom of speech should extend to the rights of people to engage in libel and defamation?

You can get a yellow card on here for calling someone a w***er but it's ok to accuse people of crimes against humanity without any evidence.
