Sorry to hear this but seriously, you'll have little trouble finding employment. The transferable skills and discipline acquired in policing are sought after in both the Public and Private sectors. Sit down with a decent employment counsellor who will help determine and describe those skills and attributes in preparation for life in civvy street. Lastly, network!!!!. This forum is a start but if not already get yourself on LinkedIn.com

Some may remember about 2 and a half years ago I had a very bad car accident, which after 6 weeks in hospital and 5 operations later has left me unable to ever run again... Well yesterday I was informed by the Metropolitan Police that after 18 years service they are going to medically retire me with my last working day being the 4th January 2019... I'm 40 and have no f***ing idea what to do!!... Can anyone give me a job???!!
KBL...This is so sad to read. How the Fck can they lose someone with so much experience, knowledge, knows the system, the good guys and the bad guys...stuff they can't and don't teach you in college. Good luck mate and hope you find something.

Just being a bit contentious but could this not be seen as discrimination? Surely there would be an alternative role for you to perform? I presume you are getting good compensation either from your insurance, or the force? I hope it's considerable. Consider further education in particular if it is. That could open a lot more doors for you. Plus, if you choose the right institution there would be loads of fit women.

Yes, just reading how desperate we are for maths teachers, with PE and sixth formers helping out.

Sorry to hear this news. Someone I know who had been a police special for several years, but couldn't join the force as his white, heterosexual late-twenties status didn't help the process, went for a job in the force sifting information/intelligence. He is happy there. There is also CSI departments you may look at & feel qualified to apply for. These only suit if you are happy to stay in the Force, of course. Very best wishes for your future.

I'm sure this lot would welcome ex plod, and you probably won't need the salary you were on if you're getting the pension.

Police Specials have a 'hobby Bobby reputation' and are generally disliked by many attested officers who fail to understand why anyone would voluntarily give up their free time at the weekend only to stand outside local trouble-spots in a uniform...... 'Specials' are not given a fast track entry into the police service as many do not meet the physical/health/aptitude requirements.

They have simply looked at how much I earn and know that they can replace me with someone brand new for half of my annual wage!!

You have experience that will compensate - there are investigator roles in loss adjusting, POCA in NCA, fraud - banks and insurers should be on your hit list - I think Linkedin has been mentioned up thread - I have had success with this so get on if not on already and someone may find you.
