In general they cost more and may get more per hour in some cases. They do not get the benefits of permanent NHS staff though. Here we import Philipino nurses and they get less. I don't think that is true. Every overseas nurse from places like the Philippines has to undergo a period of adaptation training, lasting around 6 months, to ensure that they are familiar with NHS practices. Maybe they are on a lower Band during that period but as soon as they have completed it they are paid just the same as every other nurse. They will start on Band 5.

I think we also have around 50 with immigration issues. The agency stuff relates to NHS and Ireland. I still doubt the NHS pays all imported or agency staff the same but maybe they do. Would the Philipino nurses even need the same? They will be living in cheap accommodation and sending money 'home'.

Bit patronising on the foreign nurses aspcfc My point is that they come over as young, single people and from where the cost of living is far cheaper. I can't really state that they definitely send money home - but from personal experience of meeting them they seem to. I can say they are definitely on lower pay scales in Ireland. The biggest complaint about Ireland has been the way we import them as nurses but then do not process their immigration/ visas properly - leaving them in some kind of limbo. I believe 48 are in this situation, ie. working as nurses but not actually having the required visas or recognized status.

Back on topic here, it is a big worry that most academics in Universities are Left wing. I hadn't really thought about it until recently. Universities, and places of learning should be about balance, debate and discussion. I'd be saying exactly the same thing if the reverse was true. Regardless of political allegiance or ideology, you always need a sensible, intelligent opposing narrative to keep everything healthy.

Jordan Peterson reckons because university professors aren't paid very well, they feel the capitalist system goes against them. The socialist model of wealth distribution and taking off the 'rich' would help them. And students, who are at the bottom of the earnings levels and paying no tax, will always agree because they have no income or assets yet. Free stuff sounds great!

He is a bit of an emotionless creature and I don't think that helps him in debates sometimes, but in general a lot of his points are insightful. I also casually signed up to the 'Peterson is right wing therefore ignore him' narrative without actually investigating further, but having listened to a lot of his debates at length he is a very interesting person with some scientifically and statistically grounded points of view. Most of what he says is based on fact and logic, not all of it makes complete sense and I think he removes the emotional/empathetic consideration from some of it but on the whole a lot of it makes sense to me, anyway.

I'm glad you ignored the smears from those on the left, which have been blindly promoted by stupid journalists who haven't done their own research. Leftists think that because he argues against socialism and communism, that it automatically makes him a nasty right winger. He speaks a lot about the dangers of the radical right too and also the importance of free speech. He has witnessed first hand the radical leftist professors on college campus in Canada and the crazy s*** they do, so is in the perfect position to talk about it. Most professors, lecturers and students come from privileged backgrounds. One could read a myriad of studies about the lack of access to universities or other third-level institutions for those less well off.

It isn't from a left wing university....which while a serious problem is ideology taught to near adults who chose that institution. However, when it comes to primary schools teaching far left ideological BS is not just wrong.....it's pure far left indoctrination. I'm going to cut and paste a story from the Telegraph about a Labour council that's just given the go ahead to teach transgender crap in sex education classes about males having periods to primary school children'. This isn't just this council (Brighton) it's being pushed by the Royal College of Paediatricians and Child Health (RCPCH) If my child was being taught that crap I'd pull them from the school.....Here's a heads up, they are trying to make this compulsory for all children. School children will be taught that "all genders" can have periods in new sex education lessons, in a victory for transgender rights campaigners. The advice to teachers was approved by Brighton & Hove City Council as they try to tackle stigma around menstruation. The new advice follows a council report which said: "Trans boys and men and non-binary people may have periods", adding that "menstruation must be inclusive of all genders". Bins used for menstruation products will be provided in all toilets for children, according to the report. It also calls for transgender students and pupils to be provided with additional support from a school nurse if needed. The report recommends that "language and learning about periods is inclusive of all genders, cultures, faiths and sexual orientations. For example; ‘girls and women and others who have periods'". Brighton & Hove City Council said in a statement: "By encouraging effective education on menstruation and puberty, we hope to reduce stigma and ensure no child or young person feels shame in asking for period products inside or outside of school if they need them. "We believe that it’s important for all genders to be able to learn and talk about menstruation together… Our approach recognises the fact that some people who have periods are trans or non-binary." The same council also recently released a "Trans Inclusion Schools Toolkit" to help teachers treat gender identity sensitively. It asks teachers to be respectful and inclusive of children who are questioning their gender, and tells them that purposefully not referring to children by their preferred pronoun or name can constitute harassment. The toolkit also recommends schools adopt a non-gendered uniform so all children feel included, and to reduce bullying. Tory MP David Davies told The Mail on Sunday that it was "insanity" for teachers to tell pupils that transgender boys can have periods. He said: "Learning about periods is already a difficult subject for children that age, so to throw in the idea girls who believe they are boys also have periods will leave them completely confused." However, leading doctors have previously recommended that primary school children are taught about LGBT issues. Earlier this year, the Royal College of Paediatricians and Child Health (RCPCH) urged minister go further in their guidance on sex and relationship classes, which will become compulsory from 2020. Draft Government recommendations say schools are free to determine how they address lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues, ensuring teaching is “sensitive and age-appropriate”. The Royal College said: “There needs to be a clear statement that LGBT people and relationships are part of teaching about healthy relationships in primary school. This can be demonstrated in relation to families - but also it is helpful to children to learn the meaning of terms such as lesbian, gay and bisexual”.
