I have worked in Sri Lanka multiple times. My room at the Intercontinental Colombo was blown up just after I left one time. Despite that and the generally run down nature of the place I love it. Galle is brilliant. Visit unawatuna beach. And the cricket fans are top, very generous and welcoming.

But no Lidi....So room for improvement.

Nice to see one of my recommendations Foakes doing well.

So, you’re taking credit for one of your recommendations doing well, but not accepting that a player you (presumably) didn’t rate has done well.

So, in net you average out then?

Well, I also recommended Stone before he was selected for the tour as well.

As for the wisdom of tour choices....I think to be fair we haven't even got to the end of the first test yet....yes, he bowled well first innings against a woeful batting side....and batted badly against an ok at best spinning attack.

But I don't certainly don't regard Ali as one of our best spin bowlers......Outside of helpful conditions he's a one day bowler in my book....I'd replace him with the incoming Bairstow....but that won't be happening.

But if he proves me wrong that will be to the side's benefit.....I'll comment along the way and we'll see.

Now that is an interesting conundrum facing England. Will Bairstow get back into the team straight away and if so at the expense of whom?

Bairstow likes taking the gloves but they would be mad to drop Foakes after the performance that he has put in both with bat and gloves so I wonder if Rory Burns might be the one to be dropped with Bairstow offered the openers slot.

I would like to see Woakes back in the side so that our batting order could be Stokes, Foakes and Woakes

I've heard talk of Stokes batting at three.....given the current lack of batsman who want that position I think there are worst ideas.

Though Bairstow, who they have opening in the one day stuff, is also a consideration.

If they drop Burns after one test I'll be dismayed.....I see Leach being the one to make way....though I see he's just taken another wicket.

Foakes looks a keeper....in more ways than one. The temperament looks good, which as Collingwood proved is just as important as ability.

I hear the next test is better for seamers.....Woakes, Broad, Stone.....We have options and hopefully they pick the one in the best bowling form.....It'll be interesting to see whether young Curran keeps his place.....another one with the right stuff.

Whilst it will be nice to win this series in Sri Lanka the big test in more ways than one will be next summer at home when we face the might of Starc, Cumming and Hazelwood and I wouldn't want to see a stroke making match winner like Stokes batting at 3 against them

No....it's not ideal....but at the moment it's where we are.....Perhaps Bairstow? I don't know.

The top five need work before the Ashes.

A good win, almost as surprising as the weather not interfering with play.

A decent 8 wickets for our not best spinner, in a match featuring 3 of them.

Optimistic as ever

What a gay day.

Much more important than Brexit.

Buttler and Curran bat aggressively as approved by Rooty and not a bad score near 300.

Any more of this and 'Rash the bash' will have to go in number 3.

Sri Lanka not rated by Vaughan so expect them to get 400 at least............
