There was some "token running" when Newcastle was in possession but when we had the ball he was a static as Benteke without the areal presence.
Think Meyer showed what he can bring in his substitute appearance, movement without the ball and wanting the ball while looking for forward options. Agree we should go with Wilf and Townsend up front. Have seen enough of center forwards not contributing, not just in goals but in play as much as in lack of scoring.

Fair enough question re: Ayew. I thought he put in a good shift and played the various roles he was asked to pretty well. Up front he was not really a threat, but his hold- and link up play was good. Quick as well. He seems to fit in well with our system, by which I mean he puts a shift in defensively.

He might not be the goal scorer we need. That man is a fit and in form Benteke. But while Benteke continues not to score, Ayew could be our best bet. Sorloth is not even worth mentioning from what I’ve seen.

Vive le Roy!

Ayew was bang average on Saturday. It is early days but his attributes seem limited as, clearly, he isn't a target man, nor is he a poacher - from what we saw on Saturday.

Two games and he has not had a single shot on target and a pass completion rate barely into double digits. If we're going to have a headless chicken, why not play Kaikai who, in addition to being one of ours, is at least young enough to have potential?

We might as well go with Wilf and Townsend up front until Tekkers is back. At least he gives our game some focus.

And for fecks sake play Meyer - we were always rubbish when Cabaye was injured no surprise we're not functioning as we have no balance in midfield.

I thought Ayew did well linking up with Zaha and Townsend. Ayew didn't give the ball away easily and held it up well on occasions.

He only completed 13% of his passes...
I really dislike the overuse of stats in sports analysis but I checked out his after reading some of the semi-positive comments on here. Folks it aint pretty reading.

I did not see it at all and I was very puzzled and surprised by the lack of running the channels when in possession. Very static.
Now I may be a bit biased, I strongly dislike players pushing for a move with "a strike" but have seen nothing so far that makes me believe we have a good option for central forward.

You're misreading it slightly, hes made 40 passes with an average of 13.33 a match. That's not a percentage its a solid number. Not a shot on target yet though!

I suppose the benchmark is Benteke so Ayew is God in my eyes...

What strikers?!!
Let's get rid of them all and start again.
4 goals this season, 3 of them to Wilf.

Let's keep the ball this season!

6 seasons in the premier league and we have Ayew and Sorloth as our only fit strikers currently. Both are no where near premier league standard. Surely it's time to play Wilf and Andros up top. We are missing RLC too and failed to find an adequate replacement.

We are historically absolutely useless at recruiting strikers at whichever level we play at. How many strikers have scored 15 goals in a season for us over the the last 25 years. AJ. Murray. Did Clinton or Dougie do it? It has certainly been our most problematic position since promotion.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

AJ is our record scorer in the premier 21 (11) pens. Then it’s Tekkers 15, could have been more if he could take a decent pen. He missed 3/4 before we took him off pens, that said from open play he is our top scoring striker in our Premier league history.
I don’t understand what’s happening to Benteke, his 1st season was promising, it’s like he’s literally forgotten how to score a goal.
