I think the OP makes fair point(s). My take on it is: 1. As long as we defend badly against all the sides that can’t score, and well against all the sides that can then we will do OK. You can also go through 99% of clean sheets and find examples of how it might have been different. Wasn’t it Tomkins first game back? It is not surprising that there might have been a bit of an issue at the back. 2. It is interesting that most people are focusing on 1 and not the Meyer issue. I don’t know why he isn’t in the team now. Perhaps it is because the incumbents are doing much better because of the depth of the squad. I have a similar question regarding Guitia. When will Guitia be given a change?

When will Guitia be given a change? Guita will get a chance when Wayne gives him one, but he's had a very good few months now across the end of last season and the start of this one. Meyer has looked good but I can completely understand why, after the shambles of a midfield against Southampton, Roy's first priority was to get Kouyate in there and be a bit more solid and have more of a presence. Particularly against a team we KNOW can get very physical. Can see Meyer coming in more over the next month or so, but even with the international break it would have been asking a lot to change the system and bring in an entirely new midfield for this game. It's still a work in progress.
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

I mentioned this after the Scousers with Alexander Arnold popping in crosses at will even with PVA and Schlupp. The replies were it could of been tactical as you suggest. Fair point against them but if it occurred against Huddersfield then that is a problem. As you say I don't understand how we can't get tighter on the wings.

When both Meyer and Kouyate came on we looked better. Meyer is definitely needed against the Toon next week from the off based on Torreira's impact yesterday. Expect Kouyate to make way if anybody.

It’s nice to have options. Hopefully we are already working on a striker for January. I am not sure what else we need.

I do think we have a vulnerability to high crosses and this was demonstrated yesterday against Huddersfield even though fortunately they didn’t take their chances.

I think a large part of the problem is actually the midfield. Without Luka and Cabaye it's getting overrun and leaving our back 4 exposed. So so true, our midfield has been bossed in every game to far, I would start Meyer next game 100%.
