Even if Huddersfield kept coming, liked our team with Ayew...maybe time for our Spanish goalie as well. WH (not a critic) did some funny things yesterdayand got away with it.

Yes, for the first time this season I saw a bit of the old Hennessey between the sticks, so maybe it is time to give Guaita a go. The plus I see for Hennessey is that he tends to make the difficult saves look easy and then does the complete opposite with crosses. We can only go by what is seen in training though and of course we have to accept Roy's loyalty towards players who normally have to commit the equivalent of footballing hari kari before they are dropped.

Ayew maybe listed as a striker, but hes never really done in his career what a striker does, i.e. score goals. 61 goals in 315 appearances. Benteke has twice that strike rate. But Ayew did link up better today than i have seen Benteke do. I was surprised that Ayew got the nod over Sorloth, who does not seem to catch a break. When Ayew joined Swansea from A.Villa in season 2016-17 he only scored 1 goal for them - his first game for Swansea was Feb 2017 so he only got a single goal between February and the end of the season. However he did score 11 goals for Swansea last season in a team that was relegated so that was not a bad tally in the circumstances. And he did score for Swansea in both games against us ! Well, if we are going to play with a non goalscoring striker then I would prefer to see one that holds the ball up and brings others into play, is mobile and shows for the ball and can draw fouls. Ayew did that on Saturday.

Think Ayew had a dig at zaha? He was quoted as saying he expects digs and kicks and dirty fouls whilst playing as a striker, and that it’s a mans game. Think he may have been aiming it a bit at wilf?

I really think he was talking about his own experience in the Huddersfield game, watch the interview with him on the palace website, he was not talking about Wilf.

No, I do mean using Ward to stop Shelvey while Newcastle have the ball, and then go to full back to cover for the full backs to go forward. I do not know if Meyer can do a marking job. Shelvey is the springboard for them and can release long, accurate passes, has quite a shot and is able to control the ball in the middle of the park. Palace need to speed him up, block his movement and try to cut off his passing. The key to stopping Newcastle.
