what other small incidental characters eventually burgeoned to steal all the limelight ?

Saul Goodman - Bob Odenkirk

arnold schwarzenegger - first terminator had very few lines to act, no soul and not much personality.

Harrison Ford - a sidekick in StarWars that had a much better career than mark hamill et al.
