I would welcome this move if it’s genuine, Wickham ‘s fitness is questionable, players are never the same after the injury he has suffered. If we do bring in Babacar then I would like to see Wickham go out on loan to a Championship club to prove and get match fitness. If he breaks down or suffers another injury we are not left short up front like last season.

The snippet in today’s Times reports the interest in the player, then says Roy has said that the club has little money, concluding that Reidwald or Townsend may therefore be sold. Bizarre!!

If we want to buy Babacar then it looks like we would have to sell someone to fund the deal. I doubt that Wickham would be of permanent interest to anyone given his fitness record. And loaning him out wouldn't raise enough funds. As I can't see the sense in having Babacar, Wickham, Sorloth and Benteke in the squad, I think it could be Benteke that goes.

Not sure where to start..... Someone, did I get this right? Someone thinks Jonny Williams, bar injury is as good as Cabaye...? You people on crack? As for this mirror ‘rumour’.... yesterday the manager is saying we have no money. And anyone actually think that means we’re gonna spend £12m on that fella is frankly also on crack.

Agreed Williams is an average championship player at best. As for this rumour it’s that time of year....almost as regular as Nugent. We won’t be buying anybody without selling first. We are skint. Edited by BelfastEagle (18 Jul 2018 8.52pm)

I said, if you're referring to me, that over a season they would end up with similar goals/assists. Williams is nowhere near Cabaye and I also said he needs to drop a level.

Poor sod. Williams has "dropped a level" every season for the last four seasons. He frequently gets no further than the bench and is rarely a starter and then he gets injured. He was injured again on the pre-season tour. The only occasions where I've seen him get any significant back-to-back game time was for Wales in the Euros and he was certainly very 'busy', but not in a good way. I can't see him as a replacement for Cabaye or anyone else in our midfield.

If we haven’t picked him up before, when we have had some money and no strikers, then we sure as hell aren’t going to go in for him when we have no money, got Sorloth and Wickham back.
