My dad was born in Panama as my grandparents (Scottish grandpa and English grandma) were Salvation Army and were sent/stationed there for many years, so i was happy for him when they qualified. Happy because despite dad coming to the UK at 16 and living in Oliver Avenue, 300yds from Selhurst, the dirty little glory-hunting f'ker not only chose to support Leeds but tried to sway me too!!!!!!!! (Thank the Lord for gramps and younger brother Uncle Dave for leading me down the path of righteousness).
My grandmother was also born in Panama. I think first half was fab,we should try and win the group and carry the momentum into the knockout stages. I think the bigger teams will want to avoid playing England. Thee only other really good side i've seen are Croatia.

Still overjoyed about the win but I agree with Gareth Southgate's comments. He was annoyed about the way we started and also giving away a silly goal. We were pathetic, squandering the ball in crucial positions and could easily have conceded the lead. Thanks heavens we soon woke up. It's sad to give a bunch of cheating, fouling, nasty scumbags the satisfaction of scoring their first ever World Cup goal against us. I am not often vindictive but Panama were unbelievably shocking and they and their supporters didn't deserve any satisfaction at all from that vile display.

I agree it does not matter as England have to beat the best. Perhaps the sooner the better for matches against top sides.

Portugal had a favourable draw in the Euros and made the most of it. Finishing second could mean avoiding Colombia and then Germany/Brazil in the quarters assuming we can make it that far. Yes you can say we have to beat the best to win it, but if you can avoid having to beat Colombia, Brazil, France and Spain then you stand a much better chance of doing so!

Assuming Belgium also want to avoid Columbia, Brazil and Germany, we could be in for a match like something out of “The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin”. Even better, we could have everyone trying to get ‘booked’ in an attempt to secure a worse ‘Fair Play’ record than the oppo.
