Yes, offenders will be put on the sex offender's register. I assume that immature boys will be treated far more leniently that repeated offenders/real perverts, and that is where the maximum sentence will be used. As for the hypocrisy of B-list starlets and the press coverage - well to me if you wear a skirt/frock split so high up your thigh that your breakfast can be seen from the bottom of the stairs, then there isn't too much to complain about (the 'all publicity is good publicity' theory probably applies here; that is a world away from your wife/daughter/sister being violated by a pervert taking upskirts as she bends over the freezer to get a bag of frozen peas in the supermarket. As Stirlingsays says, let's hope some common sense is applied in differentiating the two. I very much hope that foolish young boys aren't put on the sex offenders registers for stupid planks.....planks that they deserve a black eye for not something that could destroy them. This reminds me of a story my older brother told me about his training in the Army....mid seventies. He said that if a soldier had broken the rules they were given the choice of a fine or a punch. As you'd expect most took the physical. I most definitely agree with you Becky, this would make my blood boil if done to anyone minding their own business. It's creepy even if a girl's looking for sexual attention.

Purely in the interest of research I ventured to xhamster a p*** site I am told. 'Upskirt' videos well must be pretty hot. Well, a normal girl displaying nothing but her average looks walks into a shop while the camera follows a few yards away. For about three minutes. Sexual content - zero, not even mildly , any sexual interest? Well if there is you must find Mrs May worthy that's how badly off you are. Two years in the jug ?

The Private Members Bill has been defeated as one silly old fool (Sir Christopher Choate) objected and it seems that it only needs one MP to object for the bill to fail. Let's hope that the women of Christchurch who have this old duffer as their MP make their point by having him deselected as soon as possible

Stopped. Good, I think this would require safeguards for immature teenage boys being stupid before I would be comfortable. I've taught teenage boys for years, you shouldn't criminise an energetic overly hormonal idiot and destroy their career prospects. Punishment, for sure....but common sense please. For other instances perhaps there should be some provisions.

The problem is that so much legislation that goes through (or is rejected) has been formulated as a knee-jerk reaction to a new but rapidly emerging problem. A little more time and forethought would help make sure that it is both applicable and enforceable.

Should common sense prevail when horny young men are involved and the offence is not part of a pattern of creepy or anti social behaviour? Yes. However, women will tell you if you ask them about the creepy behaviour men of all ages can get up to. Exposing an erect cock, masterbating on public transport, taking unsolicited photos, borderline stalking, the list goes on. In addition to men being the beneficiaries of common sense, equally so men to act as gatekeepers against the creeps and tell friends or weirdos when they are out of order. The action detailed in the OP is as much a result of male creepiness as PC, IMO.

But essentially you make valid points.

However, we as a civilised society have a duty to try and find a middle ground. Compromise is what separates sense from polarised thought & action.
