Almaz by Randy Crawford gets a lot of women getting emotional and I think it’s an Oboe in the background that hits the nerves.

It’s about an Alcatrean immigrant couple that lived next to RC and the lady Almaz having a love that women never have.

A beautiful June day in 1999 and I had just finished my final A-Level exam - didn't have a job lined up, hadn't applied for uni, could only see a holiday to Tenerife and a very long summer of boozing ahead with mates.

Sat on the grass with a 3 litre bottle of cider outside school and someone put on (I think) Now 42 on their DiscMan. I wish it was a better song, but the only thing I can remember is us all being utterly sh1tfaced, blaring out 'The Vengabus / We like to party'.

Just hearing the 'bus horn' in the intro (if you know the song) makes me smile and think of a time of freedom, boozing, friendship and endless opportunities.

I was on the treadmill the other day listening to a Spotify random playlist and the song by Gordon Lightfoot came on if you could read my mind. I had to stop as the emotion of the song had brought tears to my eyes. I am getting soppy in my old age

The Eels - Manchild

Fine Young Cannibals - Funny How Love Is

Andy Williams - Can't Get Used to Losing You.

Listened to those a lot after a split 18 years ago.
Then I'd slowly break out some happier tunes and was good to go again!

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.
