People like Cabaye or Benteke, our record or nearly record, big signings. The ones the club makes a big song and dance about. Cheers, mate.

Probably because he had been Cardiff's outstanding player in the Premier League the previous year. Certainly did a lot more for them than Zaha that season We didn't buy him from Cardiff though, and you have to question why QPR were willing to take a loss on him after just half a season. Zaha had absolutely no desire to go to Cardiff, he wanted to come back to us on loan but Moyes was being a c*** to him.

I know he wasn't a marquee signing like we expect now and it wasn't really that exciting to sign him. I still believe most fans were happy enough to sign him for the squad when we did. Hasn't worked out but he is better than some we have had over the years. His transfer fee looks like a pittance in comparison to current ones - still we won't recoup it. I'd love to find the transfer thread on him to see what the comments were at the time but it seems to have dropped off the boards. We'd have been a million (several in fact) times better off keeping Barry Bannan, instead of sending him on loan and buying Mutch. Edited by Stuk (12 Jun 2018 3.33pm)

I didn't think QPR lost any money in their short ownership of Mutch. They bought and sold him for £5 million as far as I remember.

How? By, buying a ticket like the rest of us?! Originally posted by Ginger Pubic Wig
I think he finds the athletic side harder than most do, and has a languid playing style. Both of which put fans' backs up. But i think he could still make it in the PL.

I genuinely don’t know what a “marquee signing” is; please explain. I take it that it doesn’t mean a signing we are inTENT on making. Sorry. Couldn’t resist the pun, but the question is genuine. Thanks. It’s an American term that doesn’t belong in our game.

Thanks Stuk, didn't realise QPR took a hit on their sale of Mutch to us. The writing was on the wall then, it would seem.

i have nothing personally against Mutch but he's been a terrible signing. I think Canada/Amercia have a player cap too so will only be contributing a % of his wages. We also get him back when their season ends in Dec so we'll have his wages to pay for another 6 or so months after he returns. Maybe a loan move to a Champ club can be arranged but i think teams like Burton were linked last time, so that shows his level
