The highlights video doesn't show any shirt pull and the referee clearly hasn't seen one from his position.

Don't beg and whine at the referee it is working against him.

Actually there was so a tug on his shirt but not an almighty yank. I'd have been surprised if a pen were given for it but it certainly wasn't a dive.

Left back position is on the linesman's side, so clearly bottled as usual. Referee was a total prick and missed practically everything, but sure you back the guy. You have no problem with half a dozen Watford players calling for a card every time they fouled him though I see.

I don't see how a ref can tolerate that constant abuse from players.

It has crept in and is a serious problem.

I thought only a captain could talk to the ref.

As if the refs job is not difficult enough !!

I actually got a dignified and candid reply from this guy so thought it probably only fair to share it.

Thanks for taking the trouble to write in, rather than just barking a few obscenities on social media, so the least I can afford you is the courtesy of a reply.

*Milivojevic free-kick: A simple case of mistaken identity from about 80 yards away. I should have known better, because I was at Bournemouth a couple of weeks ago when he scored from a set piece.

*Penalties: The report I filed to Mirror Online, just before the final whistle, is not blessed with any benefits of hindsight. Like the referee, I had to call each incident as I saw it without poring forensically over replays.

The first penalty claim looked spurious at best - until evidence later came to light that Kabasele grabbed a handful of Zaha's shirt momentarily, although it probably wasn't the reason Wilf went down.

Unlike the Milivojevic free-kick, I should have trusted the evidence of my own eyes for the penalty shout resulting in a yellow card for simulation: as I wrote, on the spur of the moment, it looked like a penalty in real time, but the only replay I saw on a monitor did not suggest a Watford player had committed a foul. On review, later on Saturday evening, there was definite contact so it was NOT a dive.

Zaha chose not to speak straight after the game, which is his prerogative, but he has spoken this morning and his comments - which I shall be reporting online and in print later - are self-explanatory.

For the record, I have covered five Palace games this season, and in all but one Zaha penalty claims have been a source of controversy. In some cases the referees awarded penalties; in others, his claims were ignored. I would respectfully suggest he, like Palace fans, must accept the rough with the smooth. At the home game with Bournemouth, for instance, in my opoinion he went down looking for a penalty in the first half (not given), but the one awarded in the last minute (and missed by Benteke) was a definite foul.

In any event, he is a terrific player, probably the most influential at any club outside the top five.

Yours in sport,

So basically a report published in a National newspaper with outrageous headlines are not based on what he sees with his own eyes but what a monitor shows or should I say what suits his agenda. Presumably his next report will have a headline ZAHA IS NOT A CHEAT I GOT IT WRONG!

A 'journalist' admit publicly they were totally wrong, that'll be the day. He is a Watford fan and was totally biased in his report.

Wilf is awesome, but if i am honest, he does go down to easily, seems to have no upper body strengh, and i wish he would stop moaning, he is no longer a kid, so the petulance has to stop, he will be even better when he learns control

The Independent report said that Wilf dived and was rightly booked. The Independent has so little money that the reporter may not even have been at the match. Wonder if it will report that Mariappa owned up to Wilf after the match that it should have been a pen.

I checked the byline for this report and it says: "Sports Staff". Which means they had no-one at the match and made it up on the office. And yes, they published a later report on Roy's interview conference comments that Wilf was not a diver, so maybe someone at the Independent had a guilty conscience about the original piece.

In a previous life I used to own a local newspaper and can assure you that "Sports Staff" doesn't mean that at all. In all likelihood it refers to a freelancer

In a previous life I was a national newspaper journalist and regularly reported football matches. I also did so as a freelance was given a personal byline. The Independent had no reason not to give a byline to a freelance. Their report of Roy's post-match interview was credited to the Press Association, so the Independent is clearly happy to credit non-staff reports. I still believe that this report was compiled in the office.

I like this idea of reporting on events when you weren't there

There was a journalist in the Independent who constantly wrote up these fascinating conversations he had with great statesman, peppered with unbelievably punchy, poignant quotes.

All of which were made up. (Johann Hari was his name)

We should make up accounts of conversations we've had with journalists.

Brian Glanville agrees with me. So does Piers Morgan. And Kenneth Wolstenholme.

I too would like to share a text I got from a Chelsea fan friend of mine after the Brighton game
“ you in the country til Monday buddy? Bloody palace fans must be some of the loudest around. Great atmosphere and what a win for the Eagles “
Made me Proud to be Palace.
