Indeed, or his goal in the away fixture at cardiff in our first season up!

I like his free kick against Man City at Selhurst.

What about the hattrick he scored against us for Millwall

Puncheon of 13/14 was awesome, and he's obviously developed an affection for the club since he joined, but it's probably a stretch to say he's one of our own..

Hopefully he comes back with point to prove and in decent form. Good player to have back in the squad potentially..

Not so keen on that funnily enough.

With the amount of players out of contract in the summer (12 including the loans, and Mutch isn't one of them!) any fit players will be a vital to the squad.

Think some fans have got a bit carried away with the 'he's one of our own' to give proper judgement.

He's passionate which is great, so is Delaney but being brutally honest i wouldn't want either of them near the 1st team now.

They were exceptional for us under Pulis and the beginning of Pardew, and one of the reasons i hope we stay up is so the likes of Delaney, Puncheon Speroni (the old guard if you will) can walk away with Palace in the prem because they were so important in the first couple of years, but looking forward there is no place for them in the squad if we realistically want to push on.

Unfortunately we cant fill our squad with players who are good for the atmosphere of the squad, we need to fill it with players looking to make the 1st team positions theirs.

Plus in Luka Sakho Tomkins and Wilf we have players who will maintain the good atmosphere imo!

While I agree wholeheartedly with the thrust of this, I also like to feel there's a fans' representative on the pitch. Somebody with authority saying: look, I know you're earning £5 million a year and that this club means less than nothing to you, but buck your f***ing ideas up and give it everything or you'll have me to answer to.

They may not be up to it as players now, but Speroni, Puncheon and Delaney seemed to have that deeper connection and desire that everyone on the pitch gives the best of themselves. That quality is worth something over a season.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

And non more so than Jedi. Never seen a player with so much pride in the shirt.

Couldn't agree more fellas. I think we're in safe hands though.
Since Dougie's days as manager and throughout Parish's stewardship, I believe that there has been a strong profiling process at the club. It may even go some way to explaining the mysterious transfer dealings of those that didn't make it across the line.
Jedi, Dann, Delaney, Ledley, McCarthur, Ward, Schlupp, PVA & many others strike me as solid blokes and 'ambassadors' if you like. There are few exceptions but even Benteke seems to be bonded within the current structure.

Puncheon was a loose cannon, an enigma, a risk, that mostly paid off and he found himself valued among the structure that existed at the club. Unfortunately for him, time and circumstances moved on and it is very hard for me to see how he could be considered good enough anymore.

just remember that without Punch we don't stay up in our first seasons here. Massive part of our success.

Agreed but what has that got to do with the potential return of Punch to the squad?

Nothing but given people are talking about his time here I thought it relevant to the thread

He was playing really well about 2 or 3 years ago, so well I thought he could have had a look in for England. He looked the best player on the pitch for us many times.

Since those days he has fallen further and further off of that form, and now is a shell of his former self.

Maybe worth a spot in the squad on 20 grand a week but I wouldn’t pay more, and would definitely not start him these days,

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

Absolutely done at this level. Never really bought the idea of him being palace thru and thru either. Good player for a couple of seasons. Overindulged and woefully managed by Pardew. Trying to turn him into a midfield playmaker was ridiculous. Contributed to his rapid decline. Should move on this summer, go and play for an Ipswich or Fulham. Not Premiership level.
