Brighton were so poor today and thankfully FFS Murray was completely shi'te. We should have killed it off in the first half but a fantastic result. Not sure what game you were watching, fair enough it was a bad miss but he caused us all sorts of problems yesterday. He won the majority of balls in the air, won possession back which led to the corner from which he scored from. The amount of times he lost his marker, Benteke could learn a lot from watching his movement/positioning.

Absolutely loving the result and still buzzing... absolutely made my weekend! Just some ill-informed thoughts: Brighton's second goal was a mistake by Ward (not just him but he was done for pace) but we looked dodgy defending setpieces and crosses throughout (bar Hennessey today); their first goal in particular. I think that is where Roy has to focus on for the rest of the season... we are bloody good in attack - even without an in-form striker - but we can't bloody defend a lead very well. I am not sure what the answer is here.. I am unwilling to pin this on Benteke, but an in-form centre-forward does help take pressure off defenders with good hold-up play. Often today we'd clear the ball and it would come straight back.. when you're under pressure, you can't always play it out from the back. 442 with Wilf and Andros does seem to put more pressure on our FBs who actually aren't that great defensively.. yet that makes us so potent going forward. Worth a think about what to do there for next season. If we're safe with a couple of games to go, might be worth experimenting. RLC is great. Let's try and sign him on a permanent. Thought Sakho was a bit dodgy at times and yet saved our bacon on other occasions.. ditto Ward. Zaha was phenomenal first half, unfortunately was quiet second half but not necessarily his fault.Townsend and our midfield were generally solid and I thought they showed good tenacity. Tekkers was awful in the last 20minutes... the substitution made sense at the time, but then he didn't play well so I am not pinning this on Roy (although maybe Sorloth instead?) I think we should have played Wan-Bissaka instead of Ward but, as I said before the game, I see exactly why Roy did it. Massive game, needed an experienced head in there. Ward however got done for pace and Brighton were targeting him it seemed. I think we should stick with AWB for the rest of the season. It may sound like I am being critical, but it's more to reflect on - if we stay up - the sort of team we want to be next year. Your thought are not at all ill informed, just the opposite IMHO

He kept getting in good positions and could have had a hat trick. I'm grateful he decided not to score that volley.

We rode our luck in that game! Not sure how people are seeing it as a clear cut victory!? Roy should have stuck with wan-Bissaka, who has the pace to deal with their winger. Ward was at fault for both goals, he lost Murray on the corner and got skinned for the second. I’m pleased for the win, takes a bit of the pressure off but we can’t keep defending like this, undoing all our hard offensive work. For me PVA is a prime example of this, such a liability! The amount of times he will do something brilliant yet mess it up my complicating a simple pass or clearance. Zaha deserves his plaudits but I have to mention Townsends work rate, he is a machine and you can’t doubt his commitment to the cause. Finally well done Wayne, I’m one of his biggest critics but he stood strong today. I still think we need a new keeper, but credit where credit is due. We outclassed them in the first half the game should have been over we turned what should have been an easy win to a nail bitter much like the Bournemouth game lucky for us we did not pay the price.

I’m sure we are as guilty as them for this but the attitude of their “fans” prior to the game made this win even sweeter. 50 years old men trying to goad our fans whilst they walked up surrounded by police is pathetic. Made this win all the sweeter. Chanting is fine but I was embarrassed for a couple of the morons the way they behaved. Wish I’d seen one of them in particular after the game so I could have laughed in his face

The ref did well for about half an hour and then seemed to go their way. Two sendings off could well have happened and Wilf being booked for arguing over an offside was ludicrous. And on a pedantic note have refs forgotten that it is TEN steps between the wall and the kick?
Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course). |

Ref v Liverpool was blatant.

I don't know what roy says to them before the game and at half time. We either play s**t first half then really well second half, or really well first half and s**t second. I expected them to come out second half raring to go and stuff the weed. But all the fight and confidence seemed to go out of them and they just sat back and let them come at us...almost cost us.

Ward was at fault for both goals, he lost Murray on the corner and got skinned for the second. I disagree. He was stood right next to him and Murray shot his leg out first and was lucky not to sky the ball over the bar. The header should never have come in from Dunk who pushed Mama just prior. IMO Mama was at fault as you have to be much stronger in that situation and not get shoved around. In the second half he made sure Dunk didn’t win those battles.
