Agree with this. I am and have never been a WH fan, but can't really say anything but how pleased I have been with his performances towards the end of the season.

I did always think WH was far better that AM, who always looked like he was going to drop a clanger (and did on several occasions) - however since he has gone to Southampton, he looks like a different player (granted based on highlights) which raises a question mark over why he didn't perform with us, bad luck and then a lack of confidence, or coaching?

I can only echo your sentiments about Wayne. His performances in the second half of the season were like day and night to what we were seeing before, improved by about 100%. How bad were the goalkeeping coaches prior to Keily? Or just how good is Keily?

As for McCarthy you can’t really say that he performed badly for us as he wasn’t given a chance. And the slipping over mishaps can’t really be classed as poor goalkeeping. They were freak to say the least.

We have the best fans in the League undoubtedly but have let ourselves down when it comes to Goalkeepers. It may not be entirely the fans fault, Pardew insisted on unceremoniously dropping club Legend Speroni whilst he was still the best Keeper at the club but we shouldn't of taken that out on the backups.

To be clear, I know Speroni had to be replaced as he aged and I'm not arguing against the likes of Allardyce, FDB and Roy for not reinstating him as number 1 but during the Pardew season where he outright refused to play Jules, seemingly out of stubbornness really got on the fans nerves.

It was terrible though that at a testimonial we laughed at Alex McCarthy and mocked him being in our goal. I believe he was booed also (Speroni was in goal for Dundee at this point).

I think Wayne has also mentioned in interviews that he knows the fans don't love him because he's not Speroni. I think we nearly pushed him out the door but I think now he's established, unless Roy opts to replace him anyway he'll start becoming one of the players that can make the odd mistake and not get cirticised for months on end.

GK is a very sensitive position, the one where mistakes are badly exposed and unless you're either the best Keeper in the world (De Gea) or a veteran (Buffon), the pressure can get you and you can have a howler. If the fans don't fully back you after, or you know deep down that just behind you are 20000 fans that want a different Keeper in Goal it can make it tremendously difficult to play a normal game.

I bet McCarthy feels completely different in the Southampton goal as opposed to ours. We can't call it losing out because I don't think he'd ever of been allowed to be as good as he is now at Selhurst.

I disagree. I think without the slipping he would have very quickly shown that he more than a very capable goal keeper.

Donkin's back in the Chinese Taipei side to face Malaysia this Friday.

Looks like Zaha was rested for Cote d'Ivoire's 4-0 win over the Central African Republic.

Will Donkin is in the Chinese Taipei U19 squad for the AFC U19 Championship in Indonesia. The 4 semi-finalists qualify for the U20 World Cup next year so let's hope Donkin (as the only senior capped player in the side) can spur his team mates on to a shock result.

In that case the match report I read had the lineups wrong.
