Certainly the 1976 semi-final (although on the day we never looked like winning it).

The other one that springs to mind is the 0-3 tonking we took, as The Team of the 80s, on Boxing Day 1979 at the Goldstone. Horrible. I was stuck in the home supporters section. The elation around me made it doubly hard to swallow.

These posts show how many games there have been where the results have been particularly hard to take, yet some of those league games that leave us feeling angry and frustrated often mean diddly-squat at the end of the season. I’m hoping that will be the case with the last two games and come May we’ll be celebrating our PL survival. If on the other hand, we go down by 2 points...

I remember the Forest match referred to by the OP when that saved penalty at the end cost us a point. I think Forest’s keeper was sent off for the foul that resulted in the penalty and he was replaced by their reserve keeper who was only about 18 and he saved the retaken kick. Even if it had been scored we would still have needed that result at Stockport in the last game.

Not a defeat but a goalless draw, one game that I remember clearly was back in March 1996. We had been trying all game to break down a resilient Portsmouth side when at the very end Andy Roberts slammed the ball into their net. The ref disallowed it because he claimed he had blown for time before Roberts kicked the ball. We still went up at the end of the season, so the result didn’t matter in the end.

Leicester Play off final easily top followed by 1990 cup final then it gets a bit harder as most defeats, even the big games, I'm over by the next morning. Monday I was over by the time I got home as the performance was decent.

Most of my frustrations come when we don't perform.

Southampton fa cup semi final, was 11 , and getting relegated at charlton was hard to take ! Think the two fa cup finals are next but the excitment of the day and playing the biggest team in the world, where you expect to lose but hope for some luck wears you down and the loss is kind of numbed with adrenalin , booze and tiredness!

The cup final replay in 1990 was hard to take, after putting in such a good performance in the semi and final, being involved in one of the best finals of all time, 7 minutes from winning it, double the support and a cracking atmosphere for the replay and the team just didn’t turn up!!

And the recent cup final defeat, they were there for the taking and I really thought we had the b******s when puncheon scored!!

Also the early 80’s in general, when I never missed a game, the amount of away games we lost 1-0 was unreal!!!!

I think if a Pardew led WBA send us down with a last-minute goal in the last game this will be exceedingly hard to take.

The relegation when we finished 4th off bottom was quite hard to take, that was typical of our luck, the one season they had 4 going down!! All season we just knew where we’d finish!!

Yes, forgot about that, and the giving liverpool our european place when we finished third and they were banned was another injustice!
