Not a very informative piece but it is in that "news"paper. I am not SP's biggest fan but would not attack anyone with so little info. If he were not planning for the championship I would be worried but at present I am far more worried about whether our dozen will be mostly back by the Huddersfield game than something that might/must happen in a couple of months time. Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Perhaps he’s lulling the opposition into a false sense of security. They’ll enter the field of play thinking they’re playing a team already resigned to the drop, then BAM! We do a smash and grab job on them.

To be fair that is not quite how it reads to me in the article. It says that he is planning for the Championship, but the inference of his comments appear to be that it will be down to the players as to whether we go down or not (which is entirely true at the end of the day) and that to not plan for the championship would be foolish (which is sad, but true). I don't think you can say he attaches any blame to anyone for where we are. Have another read, see what you think.

the headline to the quote Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish planning for life in the Championship: 'We are in a difficult situation, make no mistake... it's down to the players'

It is an unnecessary thing to say and will damage morale at a critical time.

Didn't make any such statements last year when Allardyce was here and we stayed up ok.

Keep your powder dry of course it is frustrating.

yes it cant exactly fill the squad and manager with confidence ,the opposite in fact. ok we all know it might happen but he didnt have to announce it to the world. looking back at it now makes me wonder if this was the reason for such a s***e transfer window.

down to the players?
what the one's in the treatment room with long term injuries?
with so many people throwing the towel in ,i hope the players don't read this message board.
with some first teamers coming back, and a reasonable run in ,the odds are we will stay up.
get a grip folks.

Sure he has been planning for the championship, Jach, Rakip, Sorloth are proof of that. Totally irresponsible statement nothing like kicking Roy where it hurts and damaging team morale.

odd. I remember listening to him on that podcast when he said he didn't plan for the contingency of Roy going. it astonished me at the time. now he says this like it's the most natural thing in the world. Why did he say it? so strange

I don't recall anybody asking him if during the previous season that he was planning for the championship. I'd suggest if he had been ask SP would have said yes. So as for this season I believe the spirit of all concerned at the club is high. No doubt Steve, Roy and whole squad and backroom staff are doing all they to can to keep Palace in the premier league.

Perhaps the quotes are taken out of context but it may have been preferable to say that the club have two plans depending upon which division the club are in, and this is the same as every year for the majority of premier clubs.
Different to stating ‘the club are planning for relegation’ which has negative vibes.
Strange really because Parish is usually very keen to accentuate the positive.

For me SP has got this all wrong again, yes behind closed doors you have to plan for relegation but to come out and say it... crazy IMO.
Anyway again IMO we must have begun planning in the January window. From the 3 signings, 1 playing and the other 2 nowhere to be seen.

Maybe Steve had read my post about 'Contingency Planning' and being pro-active instead of re-active etc etc !!!!
