I'm no Benteke fan, but truth be told all the way, Murray has 7 goals from open-play against Premier League team (the other 3 being converted penalties). Still, 7 in 1550 minutes is decent.

Gayle is much better though, as he also has assists. 5 goals and 2 assists in 1300 minutes. This after being much better than Murrray in the Championship last year too. And all his goals have come from center forward position, even though people here claimed that Gayle can only play second striker behind a big man. No, he didn't need any Joselu next to him to score last year or this year. In fact, Newcastle only play with Gayle as forward.

This proves 2 things:
1. Gayle has proven he's a PL player at least just as good as Benteke, despite no one paying 30 million for him.

2. You don't need a big type center forward up front to score, as it has already been proven by Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Leicester, Spanish teams, Italian teams etc. Modern football requires more running into open areas than just playing "the big man up front with the back to the opposing goal". The tall, lazy lump up front is gone from modern football. The last remnants are Lukaku, Dzeko, Giroud. That's it. All the other teams having success in their leagues don't use this type of players

Yes, he was unhappy because he was not in the starting line-up. We know that!

That's the point we are making about Pardew. GM should have been the team's centre forward!

Stop talking about hindsight for God's sake because myself and other posters on here were calling-out the Murray sale as a terrible error at the time.
