Hi Den, And you know what the clauses are? Make no mistake, if we're relegated, Steve will want to sell players, release clause or not, and if he didn't, he'd have to so I'm not sure how great that is. If we're relegated and good wage offers come in, the players will want to go. If the wage offers aren't equal to what they're on, the player won't go. If there's a release clause for PVA after relegation and it's not met, what happens then? We'd sell him anyway. Zaha may have a release clause, MAYBE even have one if we're relegated, but it's highly unlikely every player worth anything will have one and even less if relegated. They're only written up for rising stars and often when they're being paid more than they'd get elsewhere, therefore a trade off. He's paid more than some Spurs players so that's the deal. That's good business if you calculate he's on £50k or £60k more per week multiplied by 52 weeks x years before clause is triggered. Relegation wage clauses. Now that's a different matter and good management a lot of clubs don't insure themselves with. Edited by Rudi Hedman (20 Feb 2018 9.50pm)

Hi Den, Alan, all good thanks, I think the clauses are fairly standard these days, especially with teams in our position. I don't think it's a signal of any special skills from SP, he seems to have difficulty in getting any contracts signed these days unless player has a sick note in which case Palace is a good nursing home for them!

Fair enough you seem to know all about it. Was the Newcastle - Andros Townsend relegation clause a good one? It's a bit more complex than just trigger with an offer. Players wages, player power, sulking, club want to sell him anyway, value falling or going to fall. The one player it's wise with is Zaha. The rest? Would probably want most out over a certain wage and negotiate as hard as possible. A lot of them are on £3 mil more than championship wages. Would not selling them when the wage is draining the club he a good deal? Zaha great. The rest?

Maybe there are relegation release clauses on some of them to try to get the transfer to that fee trigger but it can still go through lower than that trigger, especially if there's a high wage involved and/or no bidding war and/or what is a mediocre player for either prem or those wages.

Can’t believe some of these responses. More suited to North Stand Chat. Where would we be without Wilf this season. Down and out, that’s where. You lot think that our star performer should move to a bigger club for his own sake. That did him well last time! Unbelievable. I thought this was a Palace fans forum. We might need up to 8 players this summer. How do we do that with £45 mil ish? At some point it might have to happen rather than us wanting it to.
