Cabaye is good enough to start any Palace game, but his corners are hopeless. Just don't understand why he keeps taking them....Townsend & Luka a lot better.

Cabaye has scored 9 times and assisted 5 for Palace in 3 PL seasons. And has a background of scoring and assisting from his Newcastle days.
Jedinak (who now is 33, so you can't possibly say he'd still have been good) has scored twice and assisted 5 times in just as many seasons in the PL, disregarding penalties. Yes, he was more of a defensive midfielder, but why make a comparison based on effectiveness?

As I agree age doesn't eventually forgive anyone, I think Cabaye is still one of the fastest playmakers in the league. Cabaye is faster than:
Tom Davies
Adrien Silva
Dembele
Joe Allen (as much as you'd think he's fast, his height doesn't help him keep up anymore and they are signalling the exact same thing on their forums as you are about Cabaye)
Shelvey
Aaron Mooy

So I don't think he's past it at all. I wouldn't like Cabaye gone and replaced with someone like Shelvey at all. Similar players in technical ability (maestros with the ball), but there would be a real loss in stamina and movement and recoveries.
Yes, Cabaye is not in his 20s anymore, but he is still one of the fastest 31 year old players out there who play in the playmaker position.

he is OK - decent - but not much more than that and rather less than the Newcastle version - on Cabaye, Townsend and Benteke we have spent £57 million - other teams have lesser names with better quality - Everton spent fortunes in the summer but some of their best players the other day Gueye, Davies and Kenny cost £7 million in total - getting proven qualiy is one thing, buying at the top of the market (like Everton did for Bolasie) or past its sell by date is another.

I accept that I might get pelters for getting this off my chest but it’s been on my mind for a fair while...what does Cabaye actually do to benefit the team?

I don’t actually know what his best position is after 2.5 seasons with us. He doesn’t seem to be a defensive midfielder-strong in the tackle and protecting the back four. Nor does he appear to be an effective attacking midfielder- creating chances, grabbing assists and/or goals. I’m regularly left disappointed by his set piece deliveries.

Yes, he does appear to have a decent stamina and can seemingly hassle opponents but I’d expect no less from a Premier League footballer and I’m continuously left asking myself, ‘what DOES he actually do?!’ When we signed him, he was our elite, supposedly world class player who stood out above the rest however I feel he’s fading into complete insignificance.

Any comments much appreciated.

You wont get any pelters from me...he's been chasing shadows for much of the last 18months bar the odd game (most noticeably Chelski at home this season). He only has the fitness for 30mins max of what is required nowadays...which is a shame.

I'd sooner see Jimmy Mac dropped alongside Luka now and Rakip given a chance in the 'hole'.

Even then I dont see Jimmy Mac being the answer...just that he'd have more energy than Cabaye in that position until the end of the season. Reidewald would be my preferred option as his probably the best passer of the ball we have...but he needs to be a little more physical.

I'd have to respectfully disagree...he's fine passing sideways...but nowhere the quality of feeding penetrative balls in between the lines that Reidewald and Mama are. Cabaye simply plays the safe ball 80% of the time.

Just not been as effective in the role he was brought in to do. And Jedi was basically outed to make way for him. Looks like Jedi will be be back in the PL with Villa next season. We’ll see then if he’s too old to do what he does best then. We have become quite ageist at CPFC to our detriment.
Back to Cabaye, he’s been okay for us but can’t say he has done much worth writing home about. Like Benteke he isn’t the player he was when he was with his other PL employer. He has however helped raise the profile of the club and I would suggest has helped other high profile players consider joining us. For that I am grateful. He took a risk joining us at the time and that should not be overlooked.

Not ready for the scrapheap yet. Still appears to have more time on the ball than most which is a sign of a class player. See him as a 60 minute player now though rather than the full 90.

His pass accuracy in terms of % might be impressive but stats can be misleading.

I recall the Cabaye of old at Newcastle and admired his ability. Im afraid the passing of time has blunted his effectiveness when playing over 90 mins and I suspect that in the main our supporters will conclude that he hasn't lived up to expectations.

A recent post mentioned that he only had the fitness to last 30 mins - I can understand where this is coming from and I did mention that he would be useful coming off the bench in the last 20 mins against flagging opposition. At the moment Hodgson has no option but to start Cabaye.

Yes I was discussing Cabaye on my allotment this morning with Fred who grows the best runner beans in Brighton & he said, Cabaye can`t kick with his left foot, he can`t head the ball, he can`t tackle & he doesn`t score many goals. Apart from that he`s all right.
