You can register free players until march and because we have players out for the whole season they can be de registered but this has to be allowed/permitted by the league.

check the rule book

I wonder why Scott Dann and Puncheon are even in the Premier League submitted squad. Wouldn't it have been more logical to save 2 slots in the eventuality that you get free players like Nasri or Josue?

Dann especially, what's he doing there? cause there are 6 other center backs: Tomkins, Sakho, Kelly, Jach, Riedewald, Delaney, with TFM able to play there too.
All other PL teams outside of top 6 have used a maximum of 4 central defenders this season, with the 4th having less than 200 minutes of gametime.
I'm willing to bet you that Delaney or Jach won't get 200 minutes combined until summer.

What if the league won't allow you to de-register/ un-register Dann or Puncheon? Doesn't this seem like a massive managerial error?

I don't think that you are allowed to as all available players over the age of 21 must be included whether injured or not.

It's a bit of a silly rule as the authorities could easily say that long term injured can be left out but if they are then they can't play at all for the period for their own or any other club

Or if you have over 25 you just don't include them. Point being that it stops people like Parish solving issues with loans after the window when he finds out what he needs.

Going by the rules he could've brought in Nasri and a keeper and left Dann, Punch, anyone out. We all knew he needed a keeper, that's poor. If you decide to have 2 wingers and 2 strikers after Sako gets injured then it isn't the rules at fault.

Anyway I think we can sign Nasri and loan a keeper in as an emergency if Hennessy gets injured.

What makes you say that? I know for sure Santi Cazorla wasn't named in Arsenal's first half of season squad.
Brice Da Djedje wasn't named in Watford's last year squad and he was healthy. They just didn't have room for him.

One cannot just de-register players once the squad has been named. We have named a 24 man squad.

If you have 26 you don't name him. If you 25 or under you have to.

grumpymort mentioned a rule book which I guess we have all been too lazy to read. Anyone care to make the first step?

) Clubs can make changes to their squad but only during transfer windows, so once submitted the clubs will be stuck with that squad until January. Only in exceptional circumstances, such as a goalkeeper crisis, can changes be made outside the window, and then only if the Premier League board approves the changes.

) Clubs do not have to name a full squad of 25 if they do not have that many contracted players and in this case they can add free agents outside the transfer window. However if they have 25 eligible contracted players, they must be named.

This is my understanding as well apropos "Exceptional circumstances".
One can add free agents to make the number up to 25 but not re-register players in order to bring in another one.
Will check with someone who will definitely know the rules.

Hmmm, maybe if we signed Nasri and Hennessy gets injured they wouldn't sanction the loan. A competitor wouldn't think it was fair.
