I am fed up with all these balls floated into the box - it is obviously not working and I am surprised we haven't looked into this. I want to see a ball whipped in with a bit of pace and curl. Look at Newcastle's goal yesterday; it wasn't the best ball in but the pace and whip caused us all sorts of panic.
I'm sorry but Cabaye's set pieces just do not do it for me. They are far to safe and easy to defend.
How about PVA on corners? How about we practise the whipped in corner in training? Something needs to change in this department as our stats this season from corners and set-pieces is poor.
Rant over.

Im in the main stand by holmesdale and yesterday i thought exactly the same thing, why not hit one with a bit more pace!

That's not rant but a fair assessment most of us surely will agree.

On the other hand we seemed worse at defending them at the same time. Newcastle goal was a truly awful one to concede, how Luka missed it I will never get.

Is that the same Kane who should get a ban for diving Willo? But who has so much friends and support among pundits he can not set a foot wrong.

There have been comments on here about not beating the first man when a corner is delivered.

It has been suggested that for a corner to be effective one of the best areas to direct the ball is just behind the first defender usually stationed at the front of the 6 yard box. It’s a particularly tight target, similar to aiming for the top corner of the goal when taking a free kick over a wall. Not only must the corner taker get zip and bend on the ball, they have to make sure they don’t overhit it nor deliver it too close to the keeper. And with the first defender usually standing about 20 yards away, to be effective, the ball needs to dip just after clearing this player to unsight defenders and give those attacking the ball the best chance of nipping in front of their opponents to divert it at goal. Mastering this dip from the corner flag is a difficult skill.

A ball directed towards the front post is probably more likely to be cleared by the first man than one at the back post where a goalkeeper has less chance of collecting it but in all probility the ball directed to the far post offers less danger to the defending team.
