Probably because he wanted play football for us rather than warm the bench at Southampton.

Let's not forget that Sturridge was supposed to be going to Inter Milan on loan which is somewhat further than Birmingham but that fell through because Inter couldn't shift one of their players out.

Quite possibly west Brom were the only club that was interested in signing him on loan

Yes and we can not add another loan player unless we would sent RLC back. Or TM, but that would be madness as he is just coming good at this stage.

Sturridge is one of those players who play all for himself anyway. He may have some class, but would not have liked him at ours

West Brom are starting to wind me up.
They seem to be bolstering their squad right now - just saying!

Thank you. That is what I meant. He chose West Brom over Newcastle. It’s not for footballing reasons i’d Imagine.

I think it's more likely that WBA is more convenient for him because he won't have to move into a hotel for four months. He can pretty easily just drive down from where he currently lives I'd imagine.

Newcastle, London or Milan, even if teams were interested none of us could have offered that.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

I'm expecting Parish to agree terms on a return for Clinton, only for freedman to kick up a stink as it's well known they don't get on, freedman to demand he's in the 25 and not Clinton, Roy to have had enough and claim he's repaired his reputation and freedman to take over as player-manager.

We'll struggle but with Benteke out with a headache, Dougie's hat trick v Brighton including juggling the ball into the net at the Holmesdale end and beating Pardew's West Brom 6-5 is enough to keep us up on the final day, just, above Brighton.

The fact Puncheon is a local lad was pivotal to us getting him on loan in 2013 (or was it 2014?). He was definitely good enough then to have gone elsewhere.

Same situation with Sturridge: he wants to play, and knows he can get a game with a club who are based near where his mother and other family members live. He may well have been tempted by the Inter loan because of the size of the club but he wouldn’t have picked us over West Brom say. That was my whole initial point. I was questioning the idea we were ever in for Sturridge we ‘lost’ him to West Brom.

I have just posted this under the Amadou thread in transfers -
None of us know what is really going on behind the scenes but there is one thing I do not and will never understand.
If the selling club wants a certain figure and you definitely want their player just pay up.
If they want £20m for this guy and we want him then do the deal - why bother trying to save a few sheckles here and there.
Get the job done.
If another Club hijacks this deal then we will again look really silly.

It is like buying a house - if you want it and you can afford it then buy it because if you muck around for too long then you will lose the deal!

Thoughts on why we've been losing our targets to other bottom clubs? I was fine with/expecting Ulloa to go to Brighton as he once played there and is a bit s***e for us. But after seeing pards and wb end up with Sturridge, I was a bit livid. Perhaps this will be a good thing for us when he gets injured for them, but still shakin in my boots a bit without us sealing down a 2nd striker as of yet

you do know that the transfer window hasn't shut yet? also were we ever in for Sturridge?
