Hmmm, maybe but they clearly they didn't rate him did they. You just probably know more than the professionals working with him at Watford.

I am not saying that clubs don't get it wrong, plenty of examples of that, sometimes signings just don't work out at certain places, but all things being equal I would say the likelyhood is you aren't right about him and Watford are.

Can we take this off topic stuff to another thread please. It is quite frustrating to see that there are quite a few pages of new “news” on a transfer only to have to wade through one of Matteo’s lists required endlessly.

But even though Welbeck, Chicharito, di Maria and Depay were great after leaving United, you'll still find people who will say that they were not good enough for United. I mean, it's all about perception. I could give some people a tone of rationality and they still couldn't see it. There were some who said that de Bruyne and Salah were not good enough for Chelsea, when they clearly were (at those ages, you have to take into consideration the age, it's very important)

The only time when I've been in error regarding a player's potential was about Lingard.

I'd like to show you my old posts on this site and on many more on which I have commented over the years. Just some of the things I said:

1. Dries Mertens will become one of the best football players in the world- when he was at PSV

2. Balotelli will not make it at Liverpool because he is lazy and doesn't run- right after his transfer

3. Right here in this site 2 years ago: 99% of the fans were against Townsend and were raging that he is not welcomed and should leave back to Newcastle. I was getting mocked by some of the same people who are posting in this topic because when I signed up on this site I had chosen Townsend as my favourite player. I said Townsend is one of the best left footed wingers in the PL and that he runs up and down every match, and I was given replies that he's lazy and it's all in my head. By these same people who have the audacity to keep talking to me now.

There was an entire article of a scouting firm online of how Palace overpaid for Townsend and how his statistics prove that he's not really good. IT"S BEEN TAKEN DOWN! If you search for it online you won't find it again. It was a company charging PL clubs hundreds of thousands of pounds to offer advice on buying players. They were comparing Townsend to 2-3 other wingers in the PL (I don't remember which) and were saying that those others represent a better investment. From what I know, Townsend has provided the most assists in the PL since that time from those names.

4. Coutinho is going to be the best in the world- when at blooooody Inter Milan. Cause he just never stopped fighting, even when facing opponents twice his size. And he also had that Brazilian quality

5. Left footed wingers will make even small teams compete for high places- 10 years ago. And then Mahrez and Leicester won the title. Teams which didn't play left footed wingers at all (Man Utd until this season, Arsenal) got the shaft. Compare Liverpool with Salah with Liverpool without Salah from last year. Inter Milano won the Champions League with left footed Pandev as a winger. Messi's best days at Barcelon were from the wing.

6. Pedro will make it in Chelsea- when everyone was saying just how bad he was. He won the league, was probably their best player last year

7. Heong Min Son is one of Tottenham's best players and Pochettino is stupid not to play him- proved right every time he came on. Pochettino wanted to sell him, but he imposed himself into the team

8. Danny Rose is England's best left defender- 8 years ago. People were laughing at me

9. Pochettino is stupid for selling Paulinho and keeping Dembele (who I actually said was at most a few years away from ending his career at top level, which is happening right now)- people were laughing at me. Paulinho is flourishing at Barcelona

10. Dwight Gayle is going to be top scorer in the second division- proven right

11. Gameiro is going to make it big- right after being sold by PSG, like 7 years ago. Won the Europa League with Sevilla and became one of the best strikers in Spain

12. David Moyes will relegate Sunderland by letting go of Giaccherini and Lens in pre-season (decent players to stay in the PL), not playing Khazri until December (their best player the previous year) and selling van Aanholt (the league's top left back assister) in the winter. PVA even scored a 3 pointer for us, Palace got saved, Sunderland went down.

12. Alan Pardew is stupid in playing right footed players at left back- I said this in a time Alan Pardew was "untouchable", everyone here was like "He's a manager. Who are you? I trust in him more. he's been managing teams for years!" I've been proven incredibly right as the next manager bought PVA AND Schlupp especially for that position

13. Zahavi will be very good in the Chinese Super League (if you know who Zahavi is)

14. Sadio Mane- I knew this player since he was at Red Bull Salzburg, playing with Jonathan Soriano, Alan and Kevin Kampl in the same team. The team was great, they all made it professionally. If I had been in charge I'd have bought Sadio Mane since those days. How much is he worth now?

15. I knew, I just knew that Chicharito would prove critics wrong after leaving United. He was the best in England in terms of goals to actual minutes played. He went to Leverkusen and he was the best striker in the league outside of players from Bayern Munich and Dortmund if we take his 3 years there overall.

16. I believed Fernando Torres will make it at Chelsea when everybody wanted him out and was calling him a flop- he won the Champions League. I knew that Torres wasn't all about scoring goals, as people wanted. He was one of the most hard-working strikers I have ever seen. He had plenty of assists too, goals were not everything. I was happy for him when he made it

17. Griezmann- I pointed this player out since he was at Sociedad. He used to play as a winger, not behind the striker.

18. Just before the start of this season, I had posts in the "Transfer news" saying that El Shaarawy is not really appreciated in Rome (they were using Salah-Dzeko-Perotti up front last year), that they're willing to sell for as little as 15 million, that he's incredibly fast and hard-working and he could play both behind the striker and on the wing. What would 15 million have been for a player like El Shaarawy? He has since established himself in the Rome first 11, has 7 goals and 7 assists this season, scored twice against Chelsea in the Champions League.

19. Monaco made it to the semifinals of the Champions League last year. Leonardo Jardim was voted "best manager" in Europe. I said he's not a great manager and it's easy to be good when you have Mbappe in your team and that he won't be a good manager once Mbappe leaves. Proven right this season, as they still bought in players like Jovetic, Tielemans, Keita Balde, Ghezzal, still had Falcao, Sidibe. I don't think Besiktas has access to those kind of players. And yet they finished first and Monaco finished dead last.

20. Mourinho deemed de Bruyne not good enough for the PL yet, after using him only 3 matches in the PL. I can't take credit on finding de Bruyne (as any intelligent man knew him), but I knew he had been the best youngster in the Bundesliga the previous year with 10 goals and 9 assists at 21 years. He went back to the Bundesliga and gave 10 goals and 21 assists the next year. And has kept those numbers similar for all his next seasons. It was obvious that he would have had similar numbers IF GIVEN PLAYING TIME IN CHELSEA.

Yup, I'm not doing myself any favours, sure.
Like I should actually care what some unknowns think about me on a message board.

As we've been talking he re today, the following things happened:
1. Mbaye Niang, who Icepick Tony was saying is garbage, has just score AGAIN for Torino.

2. Batshuayi, who I've been saying is twice the player Benteke is, has scored twice in the Cup against a Premier League team. And the second goal came after another backheel of his which opened up the play (like in the Brighton match): [Link]

They said that first performance and backheel pass against Brighton was a one time thing. Show me when Benteke has done something like this. At least once, not twice. He;s still at 1 goal in 1300 minutes this season.

3. Dries Mertens, who I've known since 2010, has scored twice for Napoli. He cost 9,4 million.
I guess I must be really bad at this if I would have bought Mertens when he was worth 9 million.

Am I also wrong sometimes? Sure, I'm not God. I have the courage to give my opinion about hundreds of players. Sure, I'll be wrong 2 or 3 times. It's easy to point fingers for someone who is not saying anything about any player.
Am I cocky? Maybe I come out like this, but it's not my intention. I'd be entitled to be as far as I'm the only one who knew Coutinho will be the best in the world 10 years ago. But I'm not trying to be. In all my discussions I've brought up arguments, treated my correspondents like intelligent people who want to know and learn some things, shown them why they've been wrong. I could have just said "I know because I'm smarter" but I showed exactly why I think this or that, showed reports and data which can be interpreted.

And in reply, I got short headed answers from people who I've actually tried to avoid. If anyone doesn't like my answers, best thing to just keep for themselves. They'll hear no bothering from me, I'll never comment on their posts.
Sorry for any trouble
