'Ex-Crystal Palace star arrested'. Poor old Brighton the press don't seem to know of them.

Hilarious. I’ve obviously doesn’t know the difference between tax and taxi. Maybe this will be Mr and Mrs Murray’s defence should they end up in front of m’learned friends. Or maybe they’ll go for the “Redknapp defence” i.e. I didn’t know anything about it and if I did, I didn’t know it was against the law.

What is your evidence of this? 'HMRC has seemingly struggled to bring prosecutions and Kyle Phillips, a solicitor in the sports sector team at top London law firm Howard Kennedy, told Standard Sport: “They have been very lazy in coming to the table with it but that’s not just in football. 'HMRC have been talking over the past 20-30 years about how they will fight tax evasion but just haven’t really done anything about it. The amount of money lost through tax avoidance is colossal – we are talking about hundreds of millions of pounds – and so this is one section that they are beginning to target. It is overdue in all areas but now is better than never.'

Glenn thought that if he lived by the coast he didn't have to pay Inland Revenue

He was arrested on both VAT and income tax issues but she only income tax. I wonder how come he would have a potentially huge VAT bill. Depends if he's working as a contractor (rather than PAYE) - if so, he would then be charging Brighton for his services and the fee would be liable to VAT (which should then go to HMRC minus any vatable expenses), so basically 20% on top of his wages, but it's not 'his'.

Well done HMRC for FINALLY discovering tax fraud with one player - only a case of now needing to probably tackle just about every other Prem. player; their agents; managers and clubs etc. Tax avoidance and evasion rife within top flight football.... You can bet tax avoidance is rife in top level football.

If this is true then f*** him if he has been dodging taxes. No excuse. He earns more a week than most of us would in a couple of years. I hope HMRC open the floodgates and nail every player they can who is doing this sort of thing. Honestly I’d it can get proven I hope some of them serve time so it forces other players to think twice. Edited by Midlands Eagle (25 Jan 2018 11.08am)
