Ex funeral director here.

Avoid ‘My Way’ by Frank Sinatra if you wish to have any individuality or originality. I’d say I heard that 1/2 a week. Similar with ‘He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother’ by The Hollies which was another ‘fan favourite’ (could be humourless if the coffin/deceased was a little larger)

Funerals often have entrance music, reflection music and exit/commitment music so an opportunity to have a few different tracks.

Best I heard was ‘Ding dong the witch is dead’ from Wizard of Oz, downloaded in secret by the deceased before death as a secret 4th tack on the funeral CD. It was preceded by a short message by her herself introducing the song (she was terminal and knew she was going to die) as a parting gift/joke for her family

My OH was a Crematorium Technician for many years, believe me, having been to something like 30 funerals a week, there is nothing original.... it's all been done before!

Couple of months ago at my dad's funeral (he'd been Palace fan 80+ years) the "going out" music was Glad All Over for obvious reasons. Surprisingly didn't seem out of place. Bit of a choker when they played it as teams came out at next match though.

For the last 30 or so years I've wanted Marc Almond's 'These My Dreams Are Yours' but lately, as the inevitable gets uncomfortably close, I've added Killing Joke's 'Requiem' and Theatre of Hate's 'Original Sin'.

Winning isn't everything. Without the defeats we would not value the victories. Still, it's a shame we can't play Chelsea every week.

It has to be "Five minutes more". :-)

Give me five minutes more, only five minutes more
Let me stay, let me stay in your arms
Here am I, begging for only five minutes more

Requiem by Jah Wobble.

Not for a cremation though, it would screw up their productivity!

Best for a church service where the guests have got a bit more time.

For me it will be "Highway to hell" from AC/DC followed by "Deeper and down" from Quo.

You could go for the whole hog and ask for Johnny Cash to be followed by David Bowie's 'Ashes to Ashes'....
