The team have been playing cup-finals week in, week out since Roy took over. This is not sustainable and I can see us having a run of defeats following our good recent form. However, if we can get a couple of new first teamers in this window and they start well then that could pull the team through and avoid the bad run.

For the first time this season I actually don't think we will go down as I think we will have a good spell of results towards the end of the season when some of our injured return to fitness.

This is basically what I have been stating. We have only been defeated twice in the PL in the last 13 games but are still only 3 pts from safety and I cannot see us keeping up that kind of form until the end of the season.Lots of clubs in a tense relegation battle and 'Squeaky bum' time for all the supporters.

The thing is, in most of the last 13 games we've deserved what we got. We have been playing well, as well as generally getting results, which is why I am confident we'll be fine. Other teams like Newcastle, Huddersfield and Brighton over achieved at the beginning of the season, but are starting to show cracks due to the lack of quality in their squads.

Remember, we've achieved this with only one fit and out of form striker and half our defence injured, plus RLC has barely stayed fit. It really is quite remarkable, but also very promising given we are making signings.

Personally I think we'll finish comfortably clear of relegation as I think we are better than at least 6 clubs, but importantly we also have one of the best managers in the league.

Obviously that’s because of the head start we gave everyone. Over the last thirteen games we must have averaged nearly two points a game, we don’t need anything like that form of to stay up.

I understand your argument.
The point I have been trying to make (And perhaps not very well) is that I believe it is unlikely that we can continue with that sort of record and with only 3 pts separating us from safety we could well find ourselves in trouble.

You are definitely a cup half empty sort of chap.

We are in a better position than we were last season and as you love stats so much, what is Roy's average points per game? I think you will find that his average takes us well into a safe position. Granted, any team out of 12 could be relegated but I think we are in a better position than a lot of them.

1.25 pts per game.

Last season after 24 games we were 19th on 19 pts which is in a worse position than we are in at the present time. But we then won 4 of our next 5 games, including Away at Chelsea.

We are definitely going down. I say that because, for the first time in several years, I'm not the least bit nervous (4 wins from 14 games is all we need, I reckon).

We always do precisely the opposite of what I expect, so WE'RE DOOMED!

EDIT: our remaining games include the VERY winnable:
West Ham United
Newcastle United
Everton
Huddersfield Town
Bournemouth
Brighton
Watford
Leicester City
Stoke City
West Bromwich Albion

and that's excluding the 'big boys'

There you go, doesn't that cheer you up a bit. Even if his average slips to 1 point per game I still think that will be ok... just

I know but staying up will have nothing to do with maintaining the form of the last thirteen games. If we do carry that on for the final fourteen games (unlikely, I agree), we’ll be top half.

If Zaha and a striker stays available we'll stay up.

Ah very good, a nice simple answer to a considered reflection and probably about bang on.

I never thought I would want Townsend back but with Sakho playing Wilf has to sit further back and that would cost us long term.
We will be fine in my opinion.
I know it is always in a teams hands at this stage of the season but with us it really is.
Other than Chelsea we have the big boys at our place and we have some very winnable games at home as well.
We have a depleted squad right now but with some players coming back and so I see Arsenal as a blip which will give us the kick we need to press on!
Come on you Palace!
