The proof of the situation we are currently in is a depleted squad and no one through the door, And history tells us Parish leaves everything to the last minute, He is always like that, look at Frank's appointment it took him 2 months to appoint him and 4 games to sack him, He is still a laughing stock in many eyes including mine. So please don't draw me into the mismanagement of this club by those or him at the top. Don't get me wrong I am palace through and through, been going to selhurst forever and only missed one home game in the last 6 years

Sorry to disagree, but that's only recent history - perhaps he learnt a lot from the Holloway "buy everyone on this list & pay them too much" window.

As I said on another thread, we are fishing in a different (and more difficult pond) these days:

Funnily enough, when I was bemoaning the whole Benteke transfer saga a scout I know said that we are in the toughest place to be transfer wise. If we were looking at unproven and, to a degree, unknown talent like the newly promoted clubs or those on a very small budget then we'd get most business done early doors. The same applies at the top end of the market albeit the prices become highly inflated e.g. Van Dijk.

Where we are at is in that middle ground where we are looking at back up players from the big boys or relatively known ones from across Europe. If we put an acceptable bid in their agents will often simply go around the rest of the Clubs in a similar situation & try to squeeze every last £ for their client (& themselves, of course). If nobody bites then we might get our man but if they do then it's either a bidding war or we lose out - either way it protracts the whole thing.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

Is anyone else getting concerned about the lack of bringing new blood into our club that are familiar with this level of play by Parish.

Bearing in mind the lack of quality of some fringe players, I did see this as urgent, and thought with DF in place we would hit the ground running, But that is not to be. I just hope we dont bring in players that we hope will develop over time as our need is now not in a year or two

Or do you think it will be the same old thing Parish on last day telling us that he just could not get them over the line in time. I honestly see it as a real issue, I can remember many on here a couple of months ago saying if we can stay in touch until January transfer window Parish will get us out of trouble. Well Roy has given us that opportunity. Nearly 10 days in and no real rumour, We actually play 5 games during the window with 3 more to go, that in itself is a waste without signings

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A typical Parish mismanaged transfer window as always, the guy does not have any idea (IMO) here we are all we have signed is 3 hopefuls with no prem experience, We are a couple of injuries away from disaster and all down to our Chairman SP.

Not really, he just signs the cheques, Freedman is the Sporting Director and deals with transfers

Parish will only sign a cheque when he thinks the price is right, this just leads to us playing hardball and then wetting ourselves at the last minute. See Benteke and Sakho deals for an example.

Usual tightfisted last minute shambles. Mucking players about. No goalkeeper signed and more players out than in, and three blokes you wouldn't recognize if you fell over them by the poverty shelf in Tesco signed. It's boring even predicting it now. Parish thinks he can wing it. Relegation might teach him otherwise this time.

People can't moan that we don't scout out talent and then complain that we sign players they wouldn't recognise.

This window shows once again that SP isn't as relaxed about a couple of million quid here or there as we might like him to be. I also think it shows that our available spend and wage budget is a lot smaller than we'd like it to be.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

I dont think we'll know how good a window this has been until the end of the season. We've picked up three very young internationals who could turn out to be anything. If they work out well Freedman will be hailed as a genius, and if not........

I don't think that anyone is complaining about the Polish defender that we signed but the young midfielder is a bit of an odd one as that's only a short term loan. The real complaints are about the fact that we didn't sign a keeper which is what Roy has been saying all along is a high priority

When will people realise that just because WE want them to sign for us, maybe the players and their agents don’t really fancy us as a decent prospect.
We constantly flirt with relegation, get through a succession of managers, seem to try and work within a budget and appear to only sign long term additions rather than journey men who’ll be off as soon as there is a sign of struggle.
Personally I think we’ve done alright and we’ll be ok at the end of the season.
Bare in mind, also, we’ve still got quite a lot of garbage on the wages that we can’t free up!

Yes, let's reserve judgement until we see what impact these players have.If they prove shrewed acquisitions plaudits all round, if they prove flops and we are relegated then high-grade ordnance will be dumped on the likes of Parish and Freedman.

One suspect that if they do well, Hodgson will take the credit as they were "His players", if they prove failures it will all be down to Parish and Freedman !
