Team for burnley should be: Speroni,PVA,Tomkins, Kelly, TFM, Cabaye, Mili, McCarthur, Zaha, Sako, Benteke. Bench will be awful (assuming no schlupp, Townsend, ward, sakho, RLC). Obviously no Dann. Not good.

Sako was more effective when he went out wide tonight. As Roy has mentioned before (and he kind of knows what he is talking about), he is not a natural CF and I thought he struggled to hold the ball up in the 1st half. Think back to the Man City game, for some reason Benteke got bags of stick yet re-watch the game and see how many times he won headers or held the ball up to get us up the pitch. With Dann out we are also short in height, about to play against one of the teams who score bags of goals from corners and free kicks. Again, the amount of defensive headers Benteke wins largely goes unnoticed. Dropping Benteke is not going to make him run around more or change this perceived lack of effort he is accused of. His confidence is low but a couple of goals (and they will come soon) will help him get his mojo back and we will have the guy back whose goals kept Villa in the prem previously and us last year. As a Burnley player you'd be much happier to see Benteke on the bench and Sako starting on the teamsheet before the game. Actually I think you're missing the point. We paid £30million for someone to score goals not just win defensive headers. Do you think Benteke would of been in the position to score the goal that Murray did? If Murray was in our team, he would have got at least 6 goals this season as he has for Brighton, he is a poacher. Sako runs his socks off and is unpredictable which is what teams don't like. Sako whether you like it or not is on form, and you always play your form players. When Benteke goes into the changing room at the end of the game he doesn't need a shower because he hasn't broken sweat.

If Townsend is out one can expect Sako to feature for more than a cameo role I would have thought?

Bacary is at last showing us how good the player we signed in August 2015 can be. However, his most effective is surely wide rather than as a striker.

You make it sound as if he has only scored 1 goal since he joined and seemingly forget the goals that he scored last season to effectively keep us up. 2 at Anfield...superb finish at Chelsea etc. He is not a poacher and never has been, it’s not his fault that we didn’t sign an alternative type of striker to operate instead or indeed with him. He also didn’t choose to sell Murray so comparing the two is a little pointless. Besides of which, he is and has been getting the chances in the last month or so but his lack of confidence in front of goal means he is snatching a bit and his timing of headers is slightly out. I don’t understand what part of Hodgson previously saying that Sako is not a centre forward (and therefore is not a replacement for Benteke) you are not grasping. I am not doubting Sako, but he is suited to playing wide and if Townsend is injured then he deserves a start... One thing I noticed about Sako last night was that he is now looking slimmer and a lot fitter. There were questions about whether he could last a whole game but he was still charging at the Brighton defence up to the last minute of the game.

Sako can't play on the wing anymore. He's gotten to big and he has eaten too much spinach. He's really strong now, but couldn't cope with playing on the wing at the speed of the PL. Maybe in a cup game, but not in the league. He's only a center forward for the rest of his days

He will fight and scrap in the box but isn't a natural header of the ball as Tekers is (supposed to be). It turns out that he can shoot, and from distance. He seemed to go quite wide and let Kaikai go into the middle, which isn't his game either. So really we had no centre-forward, something we've only done well when the wingers have been Townsend and Zaha. If Townsend isn't available then Sako - Tekers - Wilf is the way to go. Noticed that with him at Ashton Gate when he had a full game. Not sure if that was his role with Wolves ? Kai Kai looks ineffective as a centre forward so not sure what the tactics were there. Shows our complete lack of a proper centre forward at the required level.

They need to be able to beat a player, Sako can do this and is immensely strong. If you have seen him "in the flesh" he is as fit as I have seen him. He is not a centre forward (note the spelling of centre). Play him wide and let him cut in and unleash his ferocious shot.

Play him as the second striker in Roy's 442 where he can use his winger's ability to beat the first man to good effect. Second half vs Saints was Tekkers + Sako with Wilf and Andros swapping wings. We could have had four in that second half and it wouldn't have been harsh on Saints.
