I will find it hilarious if we end up with a backline worth about £60m all in To be fair, we have been carrying a lower end PL / Champo defence for a few years now so it's about time we invested there. Will be good to strengthen everywhere but as noted we do need competition up top.

I also seem to recall Roy saying he wants to strengthen the midfield, so I wonder if this could be a case of him coming in to give us cover at CB with the current injuries but maybe moving to mid in the future (Maybe if Cabaye goes in the summer). All that said I thought this was the role Reidewald was meant to do.

Reidewald is still a young lad with potential who hopefully will catch the positive vibe in the squad and take any chances he gets. I feel he will probably not be trusted as centre back anymore unless absolutely necessary.

I'd say there is a strong argument that the current situation of Dann and Sakho being out long term may well constitute `absolutely necessary`. We also have TFM who can play CB. My concern is that 16mill of funds may be spent to plug a short term gap which would otherwise have been used in other positions (ST and GK).

Although it might look like a short-term fix, with the number of players who have contracts expiring in the summer this could be seen as long-term. If we had another proper defensive midfielder with energy then this would really free up those in front to attack, and if he can fill in at the back until Sakho is back all the better.
