I'd suggest that population is a far bigger problem. With that comes the demand for resources and the waste products that come with it.

When there is major flooding and crop disasters those affected will just migrate inland and squeeze in. Not really a solution to the population crisis. Global Spanish flu again is what you want.

Homo Neanderthal was a fairly wide spread hominid and almost certainly would have had different skin tones, formed by exposure to different skin tones.
