I will never be able to accept that argument. I have a friend who spent her whole life working for the tax man. She has a handsome pension, and on retirement received a gong (I don't know which), presumably in recognition of nothing more than long service. Is that an adequate reason to be honoured by the Queen?

The simple truth is that people work for the Civil Service for the same reasons as people work in any other occupation: opportunity, ability, pay, pensions, job satisfaction, security, etc. If civil servants envy the mainly higher remuneration in the rough-and-tumble of the private sector, let them apply to join it.

My own opinion on these awards is very straightforward: they should be given exclusively for charitable or other unpaid work.

agreed said it better than me.

We are governed by pussies.

Are you suggesting then that they are voted in by pussies?

Couldn't agree more. So as a matter of principle, what would posters make then of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation that has been evidently quality-assured/ inspected by UK regulatory body, The Charities Commission:

Given that a sizeable proportion of the population appears to be ‘not in my name’, ‘for the many, not the few’, Facebook like agnostic bellends, then yes.

Interesting! So just imagine that you could provide YOUR manifesto for change...then what would you earnestly want to see happen ...and then how would it be managed in a cost-efficient way?

The intensity of hatred some feel towards this relatively innocuos nice middle ground chap is baffling.

Seriously, I will be interested in those who call him a "slimey cnut" etc in listing why he qualifies for such an accolade.

To be fair, I think your right, he is a "relatively innocuos nice middle ground chap." The tories U turned on a lot more things than the Lib Dems, during the coalition. However, if you SIGN a pledge not to do something, hold it up on national t.v. and then don't deliver when your in power, all you do is undermine yourself and all politians in general, if they could be any less thought of.

I know, they didn't have full power but that should have been a red line for them, or they should have walked away, it wasn't.

I do think he got a lot of stick for it but that's understandable.

I just don't think that even with all he has done, that he deserves a Knighthood.... For what? He is just relatively innocuos nice middle ground chap after all.

But if you are giving them away to any old fart as in the head of the 1922 committee, then this honour fits right in.

Hence being a Baron, a knighthood is pretty low down on the Honours system - given that most prime ministers by default over time become Lords.

Its not even a peerage or inheritable.

The Lib Dems went to their members and got a green light to go into coalition.

Everything was fine in this country until the 1960’s, when people decided to express themselves creatively and live lives as they wished.

This way of living brings with it the inherent risks of independent free thought which causes the breakdown of a functioning society.

We should therefore go back to the traditional values of ‘repress and conform’. This is best for society and thus best for people. It may harm a sizeable proportion of society but you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

He is the enemy within. A faint hearted liberal whom is bent on destroying British values and the British state.

He breaks promises, doesn’t respect democracy and is part of a liberal elite that arrogantly believes it knows what is best for us but won’t listen to us.

It is no wonder him and his sorted got f***ed over in the referendum.
