There is so much wrong with this post. In fact. Oh dear. ; Where are these anti gentrification protesters that cause gentrification you spoke of? Out of curiosity, what would you say was wrong about it ?

From the numerous people I have met amd mix with, including friends, friends of friends, different social circles. you've seen the high proportion of young white people at these marches, with white privilege surely these people ain't affected by gentrification, I'm led to belive it's only poor ethnic minorities. We don't see the old Asian or Caribbean homeowners who came over in the 50's at these marches. They're too busy selling up, getting out of London and laughing all the way to the bank to worry about that new avocado and pulled pork pop up restaurant opening down the road. I'd imagine people who came over in the 50's are too advanced in years to go on demos. What about those in social housing, do you know what their opinions are?

Look at the proportion of young white people at these marches and then look at the proportion of young white people in the most underprivileged areas in london. The numbers just don't correlate. So where do all these people come from ? How does gentrification affect them ? Just maybe they're part of the problem, no ?

I suppose quite a few of them have been pretty fed up for years of living in complete s***holes, neglected by the government, absolutely no money being pumped Into the community, to now finding new businesses opening up daily, more money going to local buisnesses, more things to do, a better atmosphere. I'd say quite a few are pretty happy with their once run down area now having something going for it.

I come from a very working class background, actually underclass would be a better description and I'm conservative. If your understanding on politics is so basic to belive working class should vote Labour and the rich should vote Tory, then you shouldn't even have a vote and you're exactly whats wrong with politics in the country. That's ironic because I have faced that class polarity before, while I know Labour would do nothing for me. West Ham are recently considerably more multicultural, in fact so are Millwall. I can only anecdotally suggest that the latter are more right wing but then there would be objections there too. I'd actually place football supporters regardless of the notion of being working class constituting 55% Brexit and an even split of Con/ Lab. I don't think the capitalist basis of the Premier League would be lost on anyone with half a clue.

I didnt know this, but I looked at the Tory donor list and apparently West Ham Utd FC are a major donor, not the chairman, but the actual club itself... I suppose they need to say thank you for their bargain stadium but did anyone else know about this? It kind of goes against that the fans claim they are. Im not sure how I feel about this, being a leftie its amused me that the "Salt of the earth cockneys" are Tory supporters but I doubt any of them know that! Like I said, it was such a wierd thing to find out that I had to tell you about it! Get out of that ideological bubble. Working class Tories exist in large numbers.

If you want proof you can easily visit anyone of these areas, Brixton, Clapham, tooting, balham, new cross, angel, Dalston, archway, Shoreditch, Whitechapel. Full of young professionals who work in the city, the majority come from midddle class backgrounds from other areas of UK, been through uni, young left leaning corbynites, suffer seriously from white guilt. love the idea of socialism while enjoying the fruits of capatalism. This. Hypocritical, 'pick and mix' champagne socialists.....met so many of them. I knew a left as you can get web developer who made a small fortune having his website bought out....he bought books on how to reduce his taxes...and that was before he was bought out...socialism was great...just as long as he got as much out of the system as possible. I don't agree with the pure capitalists....but they are genuinely more honest....their message isn't designed to please you.

I remember a few decades ago when Margaret Thatcher was in power and at General Election time the Labour manifesto included the renationalisation of the utilities without compensation and the ordinary working class man who had made a few quid on their British Telecom and British Gas shares voted Conservative in their droves as they had become share owners for the first time and wanted to hang on to their profits

They think that someone as radical as Thatcher just happened and don't realise that she came to power on the back of massive numbers of working class voters. And her medicine wasn't pleasant. That's why I regard the far left as worse than the economic right......the far left destroy the wealth creation in the country and the economic right hoard it. The working classes and indeed, middle classes are best served by a government that can encourage business to create jobs.....which requires a beneficial business environment where they can make profits......an environment that encourages the better paid jobs is even better. Quite frankly....as far as most working classes are concerned they can stick the rest of their self serving politics where the sun don't shine.
