I agree that if he used his office computer to watch p*** then it was unprofessional but that is about it.
Not a reason to be sacked from a cabinet position.

The way this all came about stinks. We are having our democracy manipulated by scumbags. I wouldn't be too pleased about that if I were you.

Its a sacking offence in almost every place I've worked - why should parliament be any different. Also using your office computer to do this is risking all manner of 'infections' that can allow remote access - which in his case is a security risk.

I agree that the way this has come about is questionable - but it should have been raised at the time as a security risk to the government infrastructure.

Yeah, that's fair but the greater concern for me is why an ex copper gets a cabinet minister sacked. Questions need to be asked.

You'd think MP's woud know better than to do this stuff but it was a decade ago. I suspect something more sinister is afoot.

Spot on! At the end of the day, he has been found out and it was allegedly extreme p*** that he was accessing on frequent occasions (hence the clogging up of the Parliament toilet system with discarded tissues). To compound matters further, the idiot (thinking that he was untouchable) decide to 'mislead investigations' which is a euphemism for being a downright liar. Is this the kind of person that any political party wants as their Deputy Leader? He had to go.

Green had to go as he lied to Parliament I have no problem with that.

The police officer(s) who disclosed now need to face sanctions. When the p*** was originally discovered a decision was made by senior officers that it was not relevant to their enquiry and no further action was required. I presume because the p*** was legal. If I remember rightly the police never found any evidence on Damien Green relating to their original enquiry so he was innocent.

10 years later a disgraced officer decides to embarrass him. According to the Head of the Met police officers have a responsibility to confidentiality and this does not end when they retire. (Interview with LBC)

I am not sure what sanctions are available and whether there is a law they have broken. If not there should be.

Police officers are in a unique position to learn a lot of "dirty" secrets about us. At the same time the police need our co-operation whether we are suspects or witness's. Why would you fully disclose to them if you run the risk of non criminal activity being spread across the papers.

I was involved in sacking a member of staff who had legal p*** on their computer. They were sacked because they violated the reputation clause of the company. During the original investigation reporting the p*** to Parliament's standards and ethics committee was an option not taken. That is not the same as running to the papers with the story.

I would like to see any responsible police officer lose their taxpayers pension but I doubt this will happen.

It shouldn't be an outright sacking offence in my view. I don't agree with society's attitudes towards this sort of thing. Considerations about network infections is fair enough but that covers everything that an employee connects to the network.

However, it is rank unprofessional and a pretty serious violation of the workplace.

Regarding the morality, our society is full of hypocrisy and double standards. I think the security issue is the greater concern.
Despite the breach of trust, I'm not sure that the public are best served by Green's removal.
It's odd that this coppr decides to spill the beans just when May needs the support of her allies.

He broke the ministerial code, to which he signed up and the contents of which he knew full well.

No option really but for him to go.

Embarrassing for May, but it will be forgotten in a few weeks. The issue will really be for her who she replaces him with and whether it's part of a wider reshuffle, and whether she can sack those ministers whose performance has been so poor that they truly deserve the sack (Davis, Fox, Boris, Hammond, Greening, Hunt).

Davis' promise to resign if Green was forced to design is reason enough to sack him. He's reneged on that promise (predictably), but the fact that he made that promise based simply on knowing and liking Green and having no knowledge of whether Green was guilty, shouldn't be tolerated and warrants his sacking. Circling the wagons and treating those outside your narrow circle with contempt is not the behaviour we should be demanding from ministers. DD needs to go. His department is a mess as well.

I really don't get this. The "coppers are out to get us" was always a distraction to try and save Green that ultimately did not work. Where the information comes from is irrelevant.

Dick and that CC from Manchester attacking an ex copper with an impeccable record who left the force for ill health (MS) in order to protect Green always seemed less palatable. That such a highly politically motivated attack was partly based on an allegation of political motivation was extraordinary.

Also the sacking was not wholly based on the coppers input or watching p**n; it was because of the misconduct against a woman. That he blatantly lied about the jizz stuff did not help.

Finally, I am not wholly happy he had to go. He is a had working, decent public servant. He is classic front bench Tory - liberal, sensible... and he voted Remain. A far cry from the far right swivel-eyed loons you seem to adore.

Oh brother.

I don't adore anyone except my nearest and dearest...and my own reflection of course.

I'd say that the loons are the ones who want to keep us in the EU company LTD.

Agreed.

Unless this p*** had stuff like underage sex in it I'm not one of those poe faced moralists who think this is an immediate sacking.

The 'lying' to parliament argument is full of pretentious delusion to me. Find me the situations where most politicians are telling the 'truth' to parliament.......biggest load of Bullsh1tters you could find outside of a lawyer's convention.

Whoever in the Police leaked this to the press has sullied themselves in my book. Took the establishment coin, until it suited them and then stuck it right to em......that will give cheer to their opponents but it's a lack of loyalty in my eyes......Police who go to the press disgust me.......I don't view the modern police service with much respect anymore anyway.

I don't accept this charge of "Far right".There are of course Tories like myself who are on the right-wing of the party, staunch eurosceptics and of course Brexiteers.I am proud to be one of them, whilst recognising that the Conservative Party is a "Broad church".I have had numerous debates with those in my party who are on the oppposite wing and we respect each others opinions.

I give the political debates the old "Body swerve" and generally do NOT even peruse them as not only would they bring on hypertension they would turn into WILLO threads and we have had enough of them to last a lifetime.

So no more from on this thread.Won't even bother to look at it's contents.
