Working classes have jobs they had to do in order to live, and hated them.

Middle classes had professions they had to do in in order to live, and generally liked them.

It's virtually meaningless now outside of identity politics. We had an era of the bracket being defined by those who didn't actually work, with those who did having no interest in such labels. I suppose now it's defined by those claiming in-work or other benefits, which if you include Child Benefit is the majority of families.

When you consider books like Owen Jones' 'Chavs' we're just a political football for the left who now care more about those who aren't white.

Have you read the book?

''Have you ever spent a night in Glasgow? Then you'll consider yourself middle class.''

Ronnie Barker in Porridge. Written by Dick Clement & Iain La Frenais.

Newcastle reused by them in Auf Wiedersehn Pet 2.

That's quite a good description.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

No. And I have no intention of doing so unless it attributes some of the problem to the left and identifies the point at which he decided to care about the poor. Sadly it was pre-Thornberry so there was no opportunity for him to address those warped ideas from those who should be fighting the corner of the working class, but ironically the pair of them are actually quite close. Sums it up for me and brings me back to my previous post.

In pure money terms I would say that working class is probably where the household income is below 40 grand....so obviously that covers a large number of people....but it's of course dependent upon where you live and how expensive that is, expanding and contracting in relation to that.

Working class though is more a frame of mine.....an allegiance to the people at the nitty gritty.....the coal face....rather than the world of the chattering classes who think they are above it all.....using the protections that money and location provides.

I don't really give myself a class,I now work for a living( after spending years and years pushing a cab around ).
I drive a lorry now and even have to get out and deliver things...big shock.
My other half Lynne is a postwoman we have a decent sized house( nearly paid for).
But then we went out and got a re mortgage to build the extension that we live in...but we don't struggle have 3 holidays a year and both drive nice ish cars.
What I'm saying is I am happy with my lot so don't really care what class I am or not.

always a Norwood boy, where ever I live.

If you believe it, the top 1% of earners pay 27% of the country's total income tax take.

Which shows the obscene amounts of money they must earn doesn't it.

It shows that they are the country's highest earners - which is what I said.
