Working classes have jobs they had to do in order to live, and hated them. Middle classes had professions they had to do in in order to live, and generally liked them.

It's virtually meaningless now outside of identity politics. We had an era of the bracket being defined by those who didn't actually work, with those who did having no interest in such labels. I suppose now it's defined by those claiming in-work or other benefits, which if you include Child Benefit is the majority of families. When you consider books like Owen Jones' 'Chavs' we're just a political football for the left who now care more about those who aren't white.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Sadly it was pre-Thornberry so there was no opportunity for him to address those warped ideas from those who should be fighting the corner of the working class, but ironically the pair of them are actually quite close. Sums it up for me and brings me back to my previous post. Edited by johnfirewall (21 Dec 2017 12.11pm)

Working class though is more a frame of mine.....an allegiance to the people at the nitty gritty.....the coal face....rather than the world of the chattering classes who think they are above it all.....using the protections that money and location provides.
