The real issue with the development in Purley is the height.
Nothing exists over 6 stories at present. Grant this one of 17 and the flood gates will open.
Developers will see that they can get plans through for more mixed developments up to 17 stories anywhere in the Borough!
This development comprises of 3 to 17 storey building with basements comprising 114 flats, community and church space and a retail unit on Island Site and a 3 to 8 storey building comprising 106 flats on south site and public realm improvements with associated vehicular accesses. With only 37 parking spaces!

That's because nobody in Purley can afford a car.

What ever get's agreed, I guess it would be over 8 stories because that is the height of the on near Smitham station. The proposed one on the "industrial estate will be 7 stories. All out of character for the area before the Buffon gave the go ahead for the first one on the old Jet garage.

If apathy is causing anybody to not sign this then just remember when one pops up unnecessarily near you that you didn't sign to oppose this whacking great thing that it seems only deserves to be there because there's loads of traffic passing through.

Btw, I was in favour a housing development on the Chaldon golf course but loads of nimbys got in the way of that. That's exactly where houses should be going. There or new towns or adding homes to towns away from London.

Remember this when you're clinging onto the luggage rack on the dangerously packed commuter train after hundreds more board at Purley.

Maybe Reigate, Banstead, Oxted, Selsdon, Bromley or anywhere there's a junction and some traffic and shops where any shopping community existed in the '70s deserve one of these. Maybe the A22 by David Gold's. Lots of traffic and traffic links there.

Looks like little has been learnt from past planning howlers. Oh well, get out and stay out and see how the graduates get on with their desires.

Surely this is the risk you take living in an affluent area with a mainline train station. Price per square metre + quick and frequent access to London = no brainer for development. It’s all very well saying build on green belt land but due to the lack of above it’s not worth the investment. However you could of course live there and be free of any concern of this thing ever happening. And probably have a better quality of life.

What a load of rubbish. So everyone living by any train station in an affluent area should know there's a chance of a 17 storey building going up and with 37 spaces and not concern themselves of it happening so it just goes ahead, as will others. Has nothing been learned from overcrowding and living in the sky?

The long term vision should be to expand out, like I've said, on golf courses or green belt, with the odd new school going up, or build new towns, not this route which is just to make a developer rich.

This is why people need to get signing. But they won't, and will complain in the future instead.

Everyone this close to London and near a fast line into Victoria, yes. And again with the overcrowding argument.

I never said that it shouldn't be of concern, just implying that the concerns should be more valid and less emotive.

The trend of discussion here seems to be equity rich people annoyed that developers are taking advantage of land in an affluent area, near a mainline train station.

Developers are never going to build out in the green belt when there are more profitable land opportunities in areas like yours. I've recently bought in Croydon but I did so fully aware that there is massive redevelopment occurring, and that there would be the potential risk of much higher rise development occurring near my property.

If you want to live in a semi detached community with no day to day change, a village green and the local church being the closest thing to a high rise development, then live in the green belt.

7 isn't it? And only at the back end where it is looking over the railway, the bypass and the industrial units. The A23 end of it is only 3 or 4 stories.

Which old Jet garage are you on about?

I don't live in Purley. I'm in Caterham and I have no issue with the whole of the a22 being 3 storey blocks of flats. I have with sky scrapers cropping up in places that are unnecessary.

There was a jet garage that became an east European jet wash just after the roundabout as you drive along to coulsdon south station.

I couldn't care less about that. My concern is the site is in the middle of an extremely busy one-way system. It would not be feasible to build this project with f***ing it up completely for a very long time, there is literally no room to manoeuvre around the proposed site as it has roads on 3 sides of it. There would be no where to locate a crane without closing off some of the roads, and they ware way too busy for that to happen.

And the amount of parking spaces is just pathetic. They're kidding no one by saying the people who move there wouldn't drive. They'd also probably have to move in a certain amount of council free-loaders, who then proceed to send the local crime rate up. But I'm sure that's just a coincidence...

Done.

What has been done to Purley over the last 10 years is disgusting and this will just make it a worse place to live/visit/drive through.
