No I am not a moderator. I just have sufficient respect for your opinion to actually seek to understand your point before I overlay my own. I thought the point that you were making was that we had chased after an unrealistic target to replace Joel Ward, only to settle for what we had. Which confused me because I thought Fosu-Mensa was an early signing in the summer, which would suggest that it wasn’t chasing an unrealistic target that was a problem in this position, but perhaps identifying realistic targets that are much better than what we have. It seems to me that our recruitment policy is the problem. There must be targets that are better than what we have, but don’t cost £30 million. What does RTFT mean?

I cited the goalkeeper position as an example of where we had begun the window with hopes of getting a strong upgrade and ended up with less than we had before.

Thanks chareauferret, I understand that. My confusion stemmed from the fact that this was not the situation with the Joel Ward position, where we signed TFM earlyish in the window.

Ok. Must be getting him muddled up with RLC then. Although August is still earlyish in the window by Palace standards.

Makes sense that man city are linked with PVA when we can’t really find a use for him Benjamin Mendy who can get up and down on the left is out injured for a while.

Defensively, however, he is a sentinel and has saved us so many a times and is one of the reasons we are even in the Premier League in the first place. It's great that Roy is able to bring him back to his best as he was before his injury by playing him in a more "traditional" role without burdening him with excessive offensive duties.

Ward is proving to be a very good purchase indeed. Might not be the fastest full back in the Premiership however he doesn't break down injured often, has been playing very well lately and has made some cracking blocks as well.

Roy is a traditional style manager, he knows how to get the best out of Ward who is a traditional style full back. He was the difference between us getting a point or losing three on Saturday and I did not expect to find myself saying that. I am pleased to see he is just about back to his best. Yes, at some point we need an upgrade/cover but on current form, not before the end of this year. We have more important positions to fill.
