The EU are doing everything they can to push Poland,Hungary,Slovakia,Czech Republic etc back to towards Russia. They dont want anything to do with the migrant worker horror show Merkel has brought on us all. And the 'Codswallop Award of the Week' goes to that paragraph.

I'll be more specific, there's a bit of a stand off between the EU & said countries over accepting Islamic migrants/refugees. Poland have gone one step further and have hinted they will seek damages caused by Germany during WW2 if they continue to push Poland towards settling Islamic migrants there. There are links about but I'm at work and skiving & don't really care enough about Gussets thread to go finding them right now. On a personal level I have found eastern Europe to be an incredibly welcoming place to visit/live rivaled only by the united states in how welcoming it is. I love it so much I'll be living in Slovakia permanently very soon.

But sadly not Budapest, I only had a small office there. I found Bratislava became quite small pretty quickly but oh boy, how pretty are the girls. Edited by Mapletree (16 Nov 2017 2.22pm)

Therefore when someone studies something really thoroughly - unless there is an obvious self-interest - I take what they say seriously. It's known as Science, you may have heard of it. I HATE the b*llsh*t concept that 'you can't trust experts'. Really? Better have your granny look after you when you have a ruptured spleen then.

You purported to know something about these countries, clearly not about their history or cultures.

No you're right, I've been visiting Slovakia for 12 years & lived there for the best part of a year without once paying attention to the history or culture of the place.... Typical English yob abroad I suppose. I can tell you all about the taxi mafia who used to run everything or theatre shows in villages like plostin talking about the failure of socialism Don't be daft maple. Please find where I explicitly state this is the tipping point for a new Soviet union. As for your other post, Bratislava took me a little by surprise the first time I visited, particularly the amount of gypsies begging for money at the train station but it has its own charm and I enjoy my time there.

In an ideal world, ownership of a twitter account should be grounds for being refused the right to vote (at the very least). The difference between something like Twitter or Facebook and the "traditional" news media (TV and print), is that you have to make an affirmative effort to ingest news from the traditional media while news on social media - real and fake - is pushed right to your phone and into your brain while you take a pony. From the Russia investigations over here, it's been shown that - with a relatively small ad buy on Facebook (about $100k) - fake news items we able to be pushed to about 140 million discrete users. Importantly, because they were redistributed over and over again by those same users, the fake news items became like smart bombs because they were being consciously redistributed to the target audience without any need for direction from the originator. Contrast that to a TV ad buy or even a freebie party-political broadcast and there's just no comparison to the reach and impact of social media.
