Have to agree with Wrighty , Chelsea have bought Drinkwater( who was too busy to be selected ) and the lad who scored against us, are they better than RLC? , never really given a chance at Chelsea. If

Great game for England against the world champs despite the "experts" earlier on this thread saying he is a "lazy git", "could do more" etc. He was of course MOTM on ITV but that was Glen Hoddle's choice who, despite his eccentric views on reincarnation, was quite a good footballer!!

I know. Some of the cr@p you read about certain players is odd. Cheek was our best player under that Frank bloke and has just come back from injury but because he's not excellent right away he's not that good.

Must say I gave Southgate stick for picking RLC but to be fair he's having a very good game.

The way Cheek played is exactly how I like to see players like that play in this country and hopefully more for our club and country. Love seeing a player not constrained to playing the dull sh1t pass 40 times a game. Good lad.

He's strong on the ball, evidence v Huddersfield 2nd half, and give him decent teammates to work off and he will, evidence off Benteke v Swansea. Give him more minutes with our better players he hasn't had much of yet and he'll be in the mix for Palace motm regularly again. Quality players need to be used correctly and have others around on their wavelength sometimes.

Agree, our first team is looking very talented now. Very impressed with the control he showed even with players on him he didnt seem phased at all.

Should be good when Benteke is back, I'd imagine we might line up something like this...

JS
Ward, Dann, Sakho, TFM,
Andros, Cabaye, Luka, RLC
Benteke, Wilf

Think Roy will go with two up top so Benteke doesn't get isolated. Also can see TFM being deployed at left back as he performed well there when asked.

That in my opinion is our strongest XI. I'd still argue getting a keeper in the next window is important. But boy have we bags of talent.

I think and hope he goes 4-3-3 and uses one of our left backs at left back. Be it Soaure, PVA or Schlupp. I personally think a fully fit Souare is the best LB at the club but despite the mistake and him being a frustrating player, I don't think Van Aanholt is anywhere near as bad as some make him out to be. Same with Ward.

3 man midfield allows us to be versatile, Luka to sit and do the basics, Loftus Cheek to go box to box which I think given his physical presence plus his technical ability etc is what he should be doing, Cabaye to have more of a free role where he can get forward and roam a bit, he's the one creative spark Palace have and I think for too long he's been wasted and also judged as a defensive midfielder.

Townsend, Benteke and Wilf up top and hopefully he lets Wilf and Townsend stay in those more "inside forward" roles, allowed to be creative and cut inside, which I think especially Wilf is more suited to as oppose to traditional out and out wingers judged on how well they can cross a ball.

Avoids Benteke being isolated and also Loftus Cheek being thrown out on the left. He should be in the heart of central midfield bossing things for us whilst we have him.

RLC's performance last night earned him MoM from Glen Hoddle and was well deserved.

Overall, it was an enjoyable game to watch and I was also heartened at the prospect of RLC's contribution to our team in the coming months.

Who signed him up for the year? Very well done that fellah!

I would play this:
JS
Ward, Dann, Sakho, TFM,
Andros, Cabaye, Luka, Zaha
RLC (no10 role)
Benteke

I guess his performance also means there’s zero chance of us keeping him next season even if we stay up.

I really don't think that Chelsea will base their assessment on a single game and a 'Friendly' at that.

RLC has to perform with some aplomb over the course of this season to enhance not only his England prospects but possibly to influence Chelsea if indeed they haven't already made their minds up about him.

Excellent and encouraging performance last night but this is only a single game and he won't be getting carried away.
